Anyone thinking about what they will be having for dinner yet? This year my H and I are hosting about 12 people. I can't decide on a menu! There are soo many things to cook. Let me hear your plans!

Re: Thanksgiving menus?
It's just H and me this year, so I don't know what we're going to do. It would probably be easier to just find a nice restaurant that's open instead of cooking, especially since H will probably have to be at work by 11pm to open at midnight (Thanks for that, Best Buy :-P) and he'll probably want to take a giant nap before.

we have turkey, home made cranberry sauce (whole berry and jellied), green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, broccoli/cheese casserole, stuffing, mashed potatos, rolls...
and at my parents house, we also do a pasta and salad course.
mmmmm
LOL... I KNOW! Nope, no reason... I just don't like it! Don't worry, everyone I know fully thinks I'm clinically insane for hating the food as well.
It'll just be us this year, so I'm doing a small turkey, homemade stuffing, green beans, mashed potatoes, homemade cranberry sauce, and gf rolls.
I think I'm also going to attempt my first gf pumpkin pie! Eeek!

You're a better woman than I. I wish I had the motivation to cook the two of us a meal like that, but I keep thinking about our small kitchen. Two used pots make the whole thing look filthy. I'm sort of dreading cooking Christmas dinner for 5 in it.

I think it helps that DH is working all weekend this year. I can start cooking around 2 pm and we'll eat at 7:30ish. Past years I've gotten up at 6am to start. Eesh.
Also, I hate leftovers, so we pack up meals for DH to take to work for the next 3 or 4 days.

Now H is informing that even though it will cleaner and cheaper to eat out, he wants to do the whole shebang here.

I'm having 3 other couples over (a total of 8 people) and I am planning:
Turkey breast roast
Turkey thigh roast (I like dark meat best, so I am having both roasts)
Cornbread dressing
Baked spinach
Mashed potatoes & gravy
Croissants (as a substitute for Pillsbury crescent rolls)
Pumpkin pie (to introduce my Aussie friends to the only real use for pumpkin)
and Gingerbread cookies (in case they don't like the pumpkin pie)
My BFF's Dad hated the traditional Thanksgiving foods as well, so they did a different ethnic cuisine every year. She had Italian Thanksgivings, Chinese, Lebanese, Mexican, Spanish, French, etc. She never knew what they were going to have until she showed up at the dinner table.
Alright, so here's what I'm thinking:
The smallest frozen turkey we can find that's NOT Butterball (wayyy too salty)
Gravy
Stuffing
Mashed potatoes
Cranberry sauce in the shape of the can it came in
Either a green bean casserole, or more likely the creamed collard greens recipe from the Thanksgiving edition of Bon Apetit
Pumpkin spice cake for dessert, unless H demands pie, which he probably will
Some sort of bread, my famous rolls if I'm feeling ambitious
There will be lots of leftovers...

Most of the frozen turkey companies also make just breast roasts -- either bone-in or boneless. You may want to look for those. For years, when it was just my parents and me for Thanksgiving, that's what we used, and we still had leftovers. All the taste of a big turkey, without quite so much turkey, you know?
Ah, but I'm a sucker for dark meat. I never eat the breast when I have a choice.

OMG y'all. Your menus sound awesome! And you gave me some ideas, so thanks!
Panda, last year I was able to get a 4 lb turkey from jennie o. It had both white and dark meat.

Confession: I almost opened up a can of cranberry sauce today to eat as a snack. with a spoon. right out of the can. I opted for some frosting straight from the can instead...and I opened it just to snack on it.
