Being pregnant is stressful!

So I spent the morning unexpectedly in the hospital. Everything is fine, but man, it's hard not being in control.

For the past two days, my very active baby has been very, very quiet. I went from feeling him almost constantly and strongly, to only feeling one or two flutters a day. This morning I called the midwife, fully expecting to hear, "Don't worry. Sometimes they're more active than others."

Instead, I heard: "You need to go to the hospital now for a scan. We need to see you right away."

Cue freak out and a one hour trip to the hospital (I was at work when I called) with me in tears thinking about the worst case scenario.

It turns out everything is fine. He's strong and growing great. He's just been resting lately for no particular reason. And of course as soon as they start listening for a heartbeat, he's back to his old self.

What a roller coaster of a day!

  • It is stressful for sure.  Glad everything is OK!
  • Glad that everything is great. That does sound really stressful.

  • Glad everything is ok. Periods of decreased movement are scary - don't let this false alarm keep you from contacting your midwife in the future if it happens again!

  • I remember that panic. Hugs.

I was admitted in the end for a couple of days before having the girls because one seemed to have stopped moving - she had run out of room and every time I had a kick on my left side it was like a little confirmation that she was okay. I don't miss that kind of stress.

  • Thanks everyone. If being pregnant is stressful, I can't wait for actual parenthood.

  • I remember emailing my cousin when I was pregnant about a concern I had and she said: "At least you know where your baby is, imagine how hard it is when he's out of your body!" And then, recently a friend on FB asked when do you stop checking to see if the baby is still breathing while he sleeps (her son was 7 weeks old at the time), one of the responses was "My daughter's 14 years old and I still worry about it!"

I think this stress will be never ever ending.

I am glad to hear that all is ok, though, and I'm glad you went in to get it checked so you know for sure.

  • So pleased there was good news at the end of the day.  I had very little movement last week too.  M was being so cranky I think it may have gotton my attention.  I realized, Wait I haven't felt her.  They told me to put my feet up and drink something really hot or really cold and I needed to pay attention of a course of an hour and half.  Sure enough, she moved.  And the next day, crazy active.

I go into W's room every night before I go to bed to listen to him breathe.

  • So glad everything's okay!  But that is super stressful.  Sorry you had to go through that!
