AW: What I did yesterday...

The Grand Canyon Skywalk is so cool! Mom and I spent hours at the West Rim yesterday.

Someone's getting a little brother!
It was so very amazing. I went to the Grand Canyon over 10 years ago and that was incredible, but the Skywalk and that area was a whole new experience. We rented a car and drove from Vegas - having that cut through that knocks the drive down from 4 hours to 2 is great! - and it was just a wonderful day.
The day before it snowed down there, so I'm really glad we didn't go then!
Is this the photo you mean?
In this picture, the folks who are truly on the edge are hard to see. To the right of the woman in the purple pants, you can see two figures kind of sitting - they're on the edge. Which is why they're sitting, not standing.
To the left of the woman in all black sitting on a rock, there's a clump of bushes. Beyond that is a little decline that leads to a lower small outcropping of rocks. That's where I climbed down.
Here's that outcropping from the rocks above. It's so hard to tell in this photo, but that green bush toward the bottom of the shot, to the left? That's the ledge I was on. The canyon is straight down from there.
And here's my Mom on the edge. She was back about two feet. The crevasse pictured above is just to the left of her. She didn't like it when I climbed down there.
I feel like I could throw up just looking at these! You are brave! I consider myself to have a great sense of balance but I would not trust myself to not turn my ankle and tumble all the way down the damn canyon.

That's why my Mom was mad at me for going down there! I have a weak ankle on the foot that I broke in May and there was some loose gravel. I was moving veeeeery slowly and had a grip on the rock behind me. I didn't stay down there long, either!
Looking at that picture of your mom made me weak in the knees.
I freak out crossing the Bay Bridge now. I'm sure (I hope) that being their in person, you can see where you would fall if that happened, but holyshit - looking at those pictures, now way would I get anywhere near the edge.
They're booties you have to wear on the Skywalk! They have them in 3 different colors and we were girly enough to pick the ones that coordinated with our sweaters. The photographer had mismatched ones on.
