Ok, this may get long and I apologize, but I need to give some background...we are having a girl in March, and I wanted to get the god mommies (there are 2, and I will explain why) a present for Christmas.
One is for my SIL. She already knows she is going to be the Godmother. She called dibs on being Godmother after she was not Godmother for my DS. Gotta love SIL's!!!! She WAS who we were going to pick for this baby, along with my brother as Godfather. Anyways, the other Godmother is my cousin. I am doing 2 God Mother's for this reason...
My cousin is 13 years younger than me. Growing up, until she came along, I had NO girl cousins. Everyone on both sides of my family was a boy, and I wanted a girl cousin SO bad. So, when my aunt got pregnant, I was over the moon to learn it was a girl. I was young, only in 7th grade when she was born, but my aunt and uncle asked me to be her Godmother. They also had one of my other aunts as a Godmother for her, because obviously at only 13, if something were to happen to them, I would not be able to step in and care for her. I was involved in the Christening just like the other Godparents. My cousin and I are very close, and she comes to visit often. She is now a senior in Hs and will be going off to college next year. It is funny, we look a lot alike and a lot of people assume we are sisters. When we got pregnant, I told my DH that if it was a girl I wanted to ask my cousin in addition to SIL to be a Godmother and told him why. He thought it was a great idea. I don't think my cousin or her parents expect this at all, and it will be so sweet to see their reaction. My father (who was my aunt's brother), died 15 years ago and we worked really hard to remain close without him in the picture. Last year we lost my grandmother and grandfather, and my brother and I are the only niece/nephew that my aunt and uncle have and they are VERY involved in our lives and we are all very close.
I am stumped this holiday season on gifts for some people, and I thought maybe incorporating a Godmother gift would be nice. It would be a complete surprise for my cousin, and I will see her over the holidays (she lives in another state), so I could give her the gift and ask her to be godmommy in person. I won't see her again until June when she graduates, and I want her to know she is godmommy before then.
I wanted to get them some sort of jewerly piece. I tried to look up a pretty bracelet for my cousin, but had no luck. Vintage Pearl has some cute bracelets, but you can't put a word that long on the charm. I tried to find a Pandora charm because she has a Pandora bracelet, but did not see anything. I was going to do a necklace for my SIL, but had no luck with that either.
Thanks for listening. Any one have any ideas? Thanks so much!
Re: Need help! Re: Godmother gifts!
I used this etsy vendor: http://www.etsy.com/listing/63431993/initial-letter-necklace-sterling-silver
I bought a simple necklace for myself, with a tiny little L for DD and a star... for something else important to me. It's nice, light and I can wear it daily. Godmother or not, I'm not the type of person that would go around with someone else's kid's name on my jewelry 24/7.
This is exactly what I ended up doing and I found something there! Thanks!!!
