Seasonal Employment?

I put in an application to work Seasonal for the Ulta near me.

I don't have much retail experience, but I do work with the public and have good people skills, as well as a very flexible schedule. I was told to call the general manager of my branch once my application is in the system, and hope to speak with him tomorrow.

Any tips?

I've heard (and seen) that how you say things in an interview is just as important as what you say, and although calling the general manager might not be a bona fide "interview," it will be his/her first impression of you. Most likely, seasonal help means you'll be trying to sell stuff, and friendly, outgoing, cheerful yet laid-back people are the type who sell stuff. So when you mention your good people skills, remember to use them as well! I know it's hard not to be nervous, but try to just sound very cheerful. Make sure you smile throughout the conversation, because the sound of a smile really does come through across the phone. And don't mention that you don't have much retail experience, unless the directly ask about it, and then be sure to talk about your positive attributes.

I agree with PP that enthusiasm is important for a retail position, especially during the holidays when stress is high. If it's just seasonal work they are going to pay more attention to your availability, attitude, and work ethic than your past experiences (I hired seasonal help retail).

I find customer service to be the easiest to get. I always smile, am enthusiastic, easy to talk to. Make sure your clothes are nice, this is an occasion I don't think a suit is necessary, but definitely pressed slacks or a skirt with hose or tights, a button up with a jacket or scarf. (What do Ulta staff wear? Dress like that. If they do wear suits, then wear a suit. But I personally would not if they don't. Others may disagree if they are in the always-wear-a-suit camp.). Wear something you are confident in!

Your duties will be talking to people. So do that. I got a retail job once because we had a nice conversation in addition to covering the general requirements. I think you will enjoy your interview.
