Topic: Man Cold

What ridiculous things does your DH try to pull when he's "sick".

Re: Topic: Man Cold

  • My DH is just starting to get over a cold that is SEEMS like he's had for about 3 months now.Confused

    He likes to:

A.) get the phlegm out of his throat, which means that he'll hock a loogie wherever he may be. That means at 5:30 in the morning, in the bedroom, while I'm sleeping. It drives me bonkers. It's SO loud and disgusting, and I just love the sound of mucus...let me tell ya!

DH firmly believes that it's "better our then in"

I want to punch him whenever I hear him doing it.

I used his car the other day, there was an empty soda can with the rim full of mucus. I almost threw up...and I almost threw up writing about it.

B.) he blames everything on his allergies. So he'll take a ridiculous amount of allergy medicine (MORE than the recommended amount) and then wonders why he feels sicker...BECAUSE IT'S NOT ALLERGIES!!!!!

C.) Whenever he is sick, I always joke by saying **cough cough** I think I got the black lung Pop. **cough cough**. Because yes, he is Zoolander pathetic.

  • Just lots of whining, the whole "ugh, I'm so sick" when it's just a runny nose. And he always finds it impossible to look in the medicine cabinet and see that we have cold meds-dude just open the cabinet and observe the contents.

Yeah, I would be a lot more accepting of your debilitating "man cold" (runny nose and, oh yeah, just runny nose) if I wasn't dealing with a teething toddler and pregnant. S just needs to suck it up and deal.

  • DH got a T-dap shot the other day.

He was trying to tell me that his arm was swollen and it hurt.

You got a freaking Tetanus shot. Of course your arm hurts.

  • I was just b1tching about this same thing yesterday on the bump!  Parker was sick and then it transferred to Rusty who was a much bigger baby about it than Parker was.

H has to do this all the time, and while I know he can't help it and has to do it, it makes me gag.  :shudder:

H just generally whines.  I don't get sick that often (like, never), so I don't tolerate it very well.  I probably should be better about it, but it's hard to put myself in his shoes.

  • Alex drives me nuts when he has a cold! One, he doesn't drink so he is ver susceptible to cold medication and takes more then the recommended dose. This makes him goofy, annoying and sleepy. Two, he whines and blows his nose constantly. Three, he becomes hyper-vigilant about germs and carries purrell with him everywhere and makes everyone put it on 500 times a day. Four, he wont kiss me until he's better for fear of getting me sick.

  • Ricky gets whiny and calls his mommy when he is sick. That is when I know he really doesn't feel well.

  • David just becomes helpless. He has text (texted?) me from the bedroom when I'm in the living room to straighten the sheets on our bed for him. FOR REAL. He has also called me at work (which we have a "emergencies only" deal - most things can be done by text/voicemail on the cell) to ask me to pick up cereal on my way home. And then, we HAD cereal, but he was "too sick to go check the cupboard" so he asked me to get some "just in case." He also whines so obnoxiously much that I want to rip my hair out.

All the whiney-ness has a very negative side effect for him - boy who called wolf issues. When he gets a fever, he also tends to get nauseous and then can't stay hydrated or keep down Tylonel. But because he whines when he's not SUPER sick, I can't tell when he is super sick... this has once lead to him having to be hooked up to an IV at Urgent Care because he was so dehydrated and had a fever of 103+ that we couldn't get down!

I love it when I get something first, and then he gets it - he constantly says "Did you feel this horrible?!?" And I'm like "yep, and I still took care of all our shiit and the dogs and went to work. Grow the f up"

  • If Steve is sick he reverts to some sort of caveman. He doesn't communicate except in grunts or hand gestures and spends the day sprawled out on the couch in his underwear. This is after he drinks 1/3 of a bottle of nyquil because "regular doses don't do anything". Okay... sure. Confused

He also has this look I like to refer to as the "pathetic puffin face" because he looks like a sad puffin when he does it. I've got baby pictures of him doing it as well. That's my sign at the beginning of a cold that lets me know to stock up on cold remedies.

Totally this! I love this post, I was just telling  my friends some of these stories this past weekend. A few years ago, DH was sick, and went to bed after getting home from work. I get home after him, and I think I stopped at the store to pick him up some medicine, etc.. I walk in the door, and he goes, "Where are the popsicles?". I just stared at him because he never asked for any popsicles, and he says, "My dad always buys me popsicles when I'm sick." Apparently, i was just supposed to KNOW this, without him telling me. Mind you, we were living in our house at the time, which means we had been dating for at least 8 years at this point, and he had never mentioned it.

My other "favorite" is another time he was really sick with strep. He actually fainted at the doctor's office, so I was afraid to leave him home alone in case he fainted again and hit his head on something. So, I'm working at home, and we're both in the living room. He decides he's going to go in the bedroom and take a nap. One minute later, I hear him calling my name. I go to see what he wants, and he asks me to close the bedroom door. The door he JUST walked through to get in bed, AND, the door which he can literally close while laying in the bed because it's right next to his side of the bed. I was dumbfounded.

  • haha! This is funny.

M isn't so bad actually. He just looks pitiful and sleeps a lot. Fortunately for him, he tends to kick cold and sickness pretty fast.

Then I get it and it last three times as long. lol...
