Let's Discuss the Penn State Scandal
Do you think the leadership at the school should be removed en masse?
What about Joe Paterno? He's retiring at the end of the season but do you think he should be removed prior to that? Do you feel he failed these kids by not following up after making the report?

Re: Let's Discuss the Penn State Scandal
Paterno, McQueary and Spanier need to be removed immediately. Unfortunately, only Spanier is going to be gone by the end of the day.
I am sick to death of people defending Paterno by saying he did was he was supposed to do. There is an important difference between not doing anything legally wrong, and doing the RIGHT thing. He did not do the right thing and because of that children continued to be tortured in his facilities, on his watch.
I think, as an alumni no less, that Graham Spanier (the University President) at the very least has the be the next to go. Did anyone see his statement where he said that he supported Curley and Schultz? If I was still living there, I would be at the door of his office protesting until I saw him leaving with boxes in hand.
I think Joe should get to finish coaching this season, and until I have further details about his involvement I am not going to jump on the "Joe Paterno is a horrible human being" bandwagon.
I'm pissed at the media for making this all about Joe Paterno and not about the disgusting human being that is Sandusky or the people who helped him continue to abuse children. I'm sick to my stomach about the whole thing.
I think the State of Pennsylvania's education department needs to come in and conduct a thorough investigation on the leadership in this school. I think many more people knew about this and turned a blind eye. There is even talk that Tom Ridge, PA's former governor, may take control of the school as a special appointment from the current governor.
I think Joe Paterno will never legally be held liable for any involvement in this. I do think he should have followed up with administrators higher than the athletic director. He should have questioned why, with allegations of sexual misconduct, was Sandusky still allowed to 1.) hold a coaching position and 2.) hold an active role in his child mentoring program. If Joe Paterno had done that and the leadership told him the charges were unfounded than I could say that Joe Paterno did all he could.
I'm upset that the Board of Trustees, to date, have not suspended Joe Paterno and the rest of the people involved or suspected of being involved. To me at least, it still seems like they're putting this multi-million making football program before what is right.
I also am sickened by the number of people who turned a blind eye to this. There are at least 7-8 adults involved in this and not one of them had enough of a moral compass to stop this.
Because Spanier gave Curley the ok to just tell Sandusky to just not bring children into the locker rooms anymore? Because of this quote: " With regard to the other presentments, I wish to say that Tim Curley and Gary Schultz have my unconditional support. I have known and worked daily with Tim and Gary for more than 16 years. I have complete confidence in how they have handled the allegations about a former University employee."
Paterno passed along the information thinking his superiors would handle it. Obviously they didn't. I'm not saying Joe is a saint, but from my understanding, he did want he thought he was supposed to do. According to the grand jury report, the graduate assistant did not give him the exact details, but told Curley and Schultz the details a couple days later.
This is what sickens me the most. The intern was a former football player. You mean to tell me he couldn't have pull Sandusky off this little kid?
the victims?? the victims are children. children just don't speak out about abuse.
One child did tell his mom about showering with Sandusky in 1998 and she notified the police. An investigation ensued and even though Sandusky ADMITTED wrongdoing, charges were not pressed.
And interestingly, the DA who decided not to press charges, disappeared and was a missing person for 6 years until finally being declared dead.
It's not the responsibility of the victim to report this.
There's a huge emotional roller coaster that a victim goes through. I imagine a child would feel shameful and think that he brought this on himself somehow. Who knows what this POS said to these kids. I imagine there was a threat from Sandusky since it has been going on for at least 15 years and it's just now coming to light. Young kids are trusting even if it is from a person who harmed you. If an adult says he's going to hurt you or your family or that no one will believe you, chances are the kid will believe that and not say anything.
I also heard a report that a parent did go to the DA in Centre County and nothing was done.
Photo bomb, yeah!
I totally understand. I have been a victim myself. It's just a terrible situation.
Here's a simple timeline:

The most detailed information is in the grand jury investigation, however, it's painfully graphic.

and charged as an accessory to the crimes.
I changed my name
no, he was not charged with anything!
I'm saying he should be charged
I changed my name
oh, sorry! I misunderstood. yes, he should be charged.
I just cannot fathom how he continued to walk the hallways every day for the last 10 years, seeing Sandusky and knowing what he did. How do you not only live with the image of a child being raped, but continue to have regular contact with the rapist?
EXACTLY!
probably he has no soul
I changed my name
I just read the Grand Jury report and I feel nauseous. I don't even have words to describe how I feel about this. I don't know how the graduate student or the head coach were ever able to look at this man the same way again, let alone collaborate with him as a colleague.
Photo bomb, yeah!
Paterno knew Sandusky was being investigated for inappropriate conduct (showering with a young boy) in 1998. He did nothing. He knew about the 2002 raping of a 10 year old. He did nothing. It makes me sick that anyone can defend his inaction.
holy ***. I've been extremely curious about Sandusky's 6 adopted children. I just read that one of them was a coaching intern at Penn State in 2000-2001.
It's really not possible that this son would not have known about the 1998 investigation, right? Is it possible he didn't know about his dad performing oral sex on a child in the showers in 2000?
This is all so f*cking crazy.
