I have been reading all the countless posts on IUDs and I didn't really see this answered, but I might have missed it.
For those of you ladies who have Mirena and have had your periods stop as a result, did that make any of your nervous? As much as I hate my period, I do love that monthly reassurance that I'm not pregnant. My current BC (Nuva Ring) is really pricey ($60 a month) so I am hoping to find something that doesn't give me migraines like the pill did, but doesn't cost DH and I $600 a year.
TIA for any insight you ladies can provide!
Re: Worried?
I totally understand what you mean about having no period. I have been on Giavini, the generic of Yaz, for a little over a year. After I started the pill, my periods started getting lighter and lighter until they finally stopped. Some pills claim to do this, but Yaz is not one of them, but my gyno said that it can happen in some women and that it wasn't a bad sign. But, I'm with you, having the monthly reasurrance that I'm not pregnant was nice, so I think I might ask to switch. I don't know much about IUD's as far as periods go, but have you tried the paragard (non-hormonal IUD)? I don't know if that would solve your problems or not. Other suggestions I would have for cheaper BC are the shot (some say it made them gain weight though), the patch, the diaphram, and female/male condom. I don't really know any statistics off the top of my head about the success rates of all of these forms of BC though.
I hope I answeed your question a little bit! Good luck!
I have an IUD and totally know what you are talking about with wanting reassurance. I do a pregnancy test about every 2 or 3 months or so just be safe. Its silly and expensive and DH makes fun of me every time. An IUD is safer than getting your tubes tied so you really don't need to worry.
I haven't had a period in about 2 years (other than a little spotting now and then) and never really minded it before. Now I couldn't imagine going back to the hassle of dealing with it every month and having to pay for tampons.
I had insurance that wouldn't pay for the nuva ring but would pay for an IUD so that was a big part of my decision.
