clicky: do you tip for takeout/carryout?

[poll]

ETA: for those that tip, do you tip the standard 15-18-ish percent as well? or lower because you're providing your own service?

Re: clicky: do you tip for takeout/carryout?

  • I don't tip, but I think I would tip 10-15% if I ordered and picked up at a specific restaurant on a regular-ish basis and my food was always ready on time and tasted good.  We only order take out/pick up ourselves once every 3-4 months at the most.

  • ....I provide my own "service".....

hahahaha  that sounds like food and self service in one.

  • I used to prep takeout orders and know it can be a. bit of a pain so I usually tip a couple bucks.

  • I normally tip a dollar or two. We don't do carryout very often but when we do they always take care of us.

    Enlighten me on this process.

  • Just where I was we had to transfer it from plates and make it look nice. Pack dressings, condiments, silverware, and all that jazz. Not a total pain but took a little effort. Usually it is the hostess too and they don't get tipped as much as servers so I like to help out! It is only a buck or two, like I would with coffee.

You tip a dollar or two with coffee?

  • Also it would take time away from other tables when serving, so if we were busy it was more difficult.

Try to leave a buck but if I don't have cash for a bit I will leave 2 the next time!

Do you have a usual coffee place or a complicated order?

  • I have a couple usual places and sometimes have a complicated order.

ETA: my coffee is also usually pretty cheap ~ $2, so I figure I can and they are nice so why not! I don't get coffee more than a couple times a week.

  • i tip some places, because i like the people that work there.. or whatever.. but mostly i don't tip when i pickup because usually the people are rude. (ok, this is really only one place, lol. but they make me mad)

  • I do, I usually tip 10% or so. I figure it's only a buck or three, so I won't feel it, but they'll appreciate it (I had some friends who worked the takeout counter in college).
  • I only sometimes tip because, I'm sorry, I'm already paying for the food and sometimes the packaging. They places I get takeout don't do anything fancy: curry in a cup with lid, rice in a bucket, chuck all in bag. I think tipping for everything is ridiculous. *I* don't get tipped for doing my job. It's a little different when I'm eating in and a server is refilling my water, etc, but chucking my food in a bag doesn't earn extra money in my opinion.
