Let's play "Do you like this house?"

You have $200k cash to spend on a house.  Is this the one you would choose?

(No?  Me either.)

Re: Let's play "Do you like this house?"

  • Well 7 acres would be nice but I think for 200K I can do better or at least something that looks more presentable in the pictures. Am I the only one thinking that the house was "staged" badly?
  • I like it, but think it's probably way overpriced (as indicated by its last sell price and Zillow's estimate).  It would be a lovely place for me to have a couple of horses and I love the floors.

It is on 7.5 acres, which is quite a bit of land.

    The layout seems really choppy.

  • It depends... is the tanning bed included?  I kid, I kid.

I wouldn't buy it personally, but it looks like a fairly nice house.  I don't know anything about the real estate market in Muskegon, but the price doesn't seem bad to me considering the age and size of the house, as well as all of the property.

    Floors are great.

I know that the owner had the basement finished after she bought it and added geothermal heat pump.  I think that is why it is priced where it is.

I think the layout is choppy and the kitchen leaves a lot to be desired (looks eerily similar to my house's kitchen.  If I'm paying that much more for a house, I'd expect a nicer kitchen.)

Also, it's in Dalton Township.  Maybe I'm a snobbity snob though.

  • I feel like a hater.

But look at the lot size:  33x1303x300x568x270x500x167x250.  Odd, no?

  • I have a hard time getting a feel for layout from pictures.  I'm also really unfamiliar with the real estate market, since our piece of real estate is unsellable and our budget won't permit the purchase of another piece.

I agree that it was staged horribly for the photos.  Why do people do that these days?!

Yeah, there are weird angles and spaces are just...odd.

    Geothermal is crazy expensive.

I need to brush up on my Michigan geography. I know nothing about Dalton Township.

Haha.  I wouldn't waste brain space figuring out where Dalton is.  :)

    Yes

I live much closer to Dalton than Hoek does and I definitely could not tell you where it is exactly without looking at a map.

It's not worth knowing...except I think it houses Michigan's Adventure.  The rest of the township is kinda...ummm...gross.  ;)

  • Did someone not have their V8 before taking those pics? And pick up the crap on the kitchen floor...and make the bed! Wow, I am crabby or something. Haha BTW...to answer your question, no.

That would be the picture where I lost it! LOL

  • Purely on the house itself (and not location which can have a huge impact), I think it is worth $200K esp with all of that land.  I'd have to do a walk through though to get a feel.  The curb appeal is terrible though (at least from the pic).  I also think the wood floors are too loud for me especially paired with those bold colors.  I'd have to lighten that up abit and make it more cohesive.  I do like the idea of that nice, big space with the wood floor in the walkout.  I like the kitchen and that long bar.
