Don't ever work for a company

that doesn't have a decent employee manual or policies. Between the drama I dealt with regarding my maternity leave and now trying to terminate my employment, return company owned equipment, arrange reimbursements and PTO payout, this is a nightmare!

  • Yuck!  Slap them with saw NE law regarding your PTO payout.

  • I was pissy and didn't really explain...My last day is Friday. I have to ship back my laptop, IP phone, firewall and a hugeass laser printer. Fine and totally expected. Next, they won't pay out PTO until they receive the equipment AND all of my expense reports have been reimbursed.

So today, the stupid bean counter arbitrarily says that he won't be reimbursing for my last work trip OR my office expenses for the past 3 quarters - we are talking about 2K here...I need to pay off the cc that the work trip is on and have been waiting for 10+ days already.....the biggest blower is that there are literally NO policies in place that explain termination procedures, so this is all completely ad lib'd. I am cool if they hold PTO until they get my shiit back, but to hold my reimbursement for expenses that I've ALREADY INCURRED is ridiculous and I am fed up. Mo'fos

    I don't know if I'm /venting yet either!!

  • OMG...I would be absolutly LIVID! Have you thought about contacting anyone in the legal system? My BFF's dad is a lawyer and if I ever have questions about anything I call him and talk it out. There have been a few times that he has told me exactly what to say to a person, or he has written a letter for me and sent it off. It tends to get a little more action.

I hope you get your $$ soon! I know what it is like to have thousands of dollars in expense reports that you are waiting to get paid for....all while playing the interest on the CC.

DING! DING! DING! I think this is my biggest issue...I re-wrote my email to the HR guy 3 times before I sent it. He doesn't ever answer the phone - I have called no less than 10 times since Monday!

If I don't have some sort of resolution by Friday, I will definately be seeking some sort of counsel, even if it's just to talk. UGH!!!

  • butting in..is there a NE law on PTO payouts?  Our company policy is they don't have to pay you PTO you accrued if you leave the company.  Thanks!

If it's earned PTO time -- vacation -- they must pay it out.  Sick time does not have to be paid out.

  • Hmmm--our PTO can be used as vacation, personal day, sick day etc. so I don't know if that is their out--they say accrued but unused PTO will not be paid out upon termination of employment.  Not that I plan on leaving but it was a big change when they enacted it a couple years ago--basically if someone starts taking a lot of time off, they may be leaving the company :)
