Need advice on how to protect your show, help!

I have an idea for a reality show and have put together a pitch/trailer. A contact has now an agent who wants to take a look at it. I'm new and naive to this field and don't know how to go about this. I feel like I might need to protect/patent my idea. Do I need to do all this before giving my pitch/disc to the agent? Could someone actually "steel my idea" or am I being overprotective and too careful? Any advice appreciated:)

Re: Need advice on how to protect your show, help!

  • You can't patent an idea and it's STEAL not STEEL. You are not being overprotective, you do need to protect your idea- try googling confidentiality agreements and/or non disclosure agreements.

  • My EH wrote and subsequently sold a screen play.  I know that he had to register it. I think it was the SGA or something like that. But he had to get a number associated with it.

  • Sorry for the misspelling:( I was in a hurry. Thanks for the advice. I will google how to go about this. Still not quite sure how this whole process works but I guess I will learn along the way.
