Thank you for all of the feedback & advice. I thought that those of you (along w/other nesties) that responded, would find this humorous.
I JUST NOW (3 days after our 2nd blown off appt) received the following email from my therapist:
Hi left text message- hope you received
I will be out of town this week & weekend.
Have 615pm or 715pm on Thursday 17
If I do get back to pgh sooner I will let you know. We can maybe keep a standing time so this doesn?t happen to you again
Thank you for your kindness with mix-up and delay
Nice structure, huh?
I can't believe this lady! Any feedback on responses would be great! Professional and polite preferred but snarky is welcome too ![]()
Btw, I never received the "mysterious" text message either. Hmm...I'm beginning to wonder if this woman isn't aware of how to use technology or is just full of crap!
Re: *Update: Enough to Change Therapists?*
I'd probably say something along the lines of:
At this time, I do not feel comfortable pursuing treatment from your counseling group since the follow up for scheduling changes have not been accurately communicated. Therapy needs to be conducted in a way that creates trust and the current situation with chronic disregard for my time and complete lack of regard to responsibility of communicating with your patient is not something that I can, or should have to, overcome. I am researching new providers and would appreciate it if you could compile your notes on our previous sessions and have my file prepared for a new counselor to take over. I can stop by your office on this date, at this time, to pick it up or else I can provide the address of my new provider and you can send it to them directly.
That's what I'd do, seriously. What a total unprofessional jerk!
Thanks, Witty! I like that! I paraphrased the bolded parts that you gave me. I have to admit, my email was pretty abrupt - I don't think she will be expecting that. Oh well! I just cannot get over, there was no apology or any awareness of her unacceptable behavior....and she's supposed to be a Therapist! Unreal.
Thank you too, Jo!

Probably not - but she's obligated to turn over anything she does have to a new provider. Plus - if they're horribly out of order (or non existant!), it could serve as good evidence should OP decide to complain about her to whatever board oversees her license.
I doubt she kept orderly files & didn't bother to ask for them. We only had a handful of sessions and I have saved files of "homework" that she gave me, so I could always use those for future appts with a new professional.
I wrote her the response email yesterday & within 15 minutes - she called me, texted me 2x and also sent me a response email. I guess she isn't technologically-challenged after all!
She "expressed how sorry she was" multiple times & said she understands if I want to seek a new Therapist & told me that if I change my mind, she is open to still seeing me.
It's just funny how backwards this whole thing was. If she was *that* thorough with our cancellations/reschedulings as she was with her "sorry response", then things may have turned out differently.
Hahaha! Yeah, technology is great when you bother to use it. Too bad she can only communicate when she's losing a client.
And good for you for switching!
