done with people who don't respond to emails/texts

i'm so sick of this. especially my sister whose nose is always in her phone so it's not like she doesn't have the capability. i guess what bothers me the most is she can facebook like crazy and text all the time with her friends, so why am i not good enough for an answer?

over the weekend i sent her an email letting her know i'd like to visit when the baby is born, i linked my pinterest board, and i offered to do a print for the nursery and offered to do her announcement. i know she read it because she mentioned it to my mom who mentioned it to me.

before you say, well it's only wednesday, i've started to notice she's like this a lot and i'm just really sick of it (i guess i don't expect a response at this point). like i texted her and asked how everything was going with the baby and she never responded. i finally had to ask my mom after i really started worrying something was up.

the thing is, i have talked to her about this. it makes me not want to reach out to her at all if it's just blown off.

i have another friend who is pulling the same thing. i asked her to a movie three weeks ago. she just responded. and before that i sent her an email about my cat asking her advice (we met through the humane society) and she just blew it off. she mentioned it when we last hung out and was like, "oh yeah sorry i never responded to that. i didn't have any advice." i would think this friend was trying to phase me out or something, but then she asks me to hang out and we have fun, so it's confusing.

i mean, it's 2011. we're all in front of our computers/mobile devices all the time. how hard is it just to respond quickly?

grrrrrrrr...

Re: done with people who don't respond to emails/texts

  • I totally agree--it's one of my biggest pet peeves.  I think a No is better than no response at all!
  • I hate when people pull the "I am just too busy to respond to emails/texts/messages" excuse.  I call B.S.   Unless you are like my husband (who it takes 20 minutes to craft 1 sentence) then it only takes a few seconds to type out a response.
  • Yeah that's not nice. I would feel the same way you do.

  • I can definitely see why you're annoyed. I have a friend that's the same way. Always on the phone/facebook, etc., but it's like she does "selective responding" or something. I'm surprised your sister didn't reply to you- especially since you were offering to make her a gift!

  • the only thing i can think is these people "save" the email thinking they'll come back to it which in my mind means they are unorganized. because when you're organized (and busy) you know it takes less time when the darn email is open to just write something and be done with it than have it hanging over your head and to open it later and reread it and respond then (if you even remember).

and yeah, kare, i mean jeez people pay me for my designs never mind that i offered to do something totally custom. and it's not like she doesn't like my work because when i designed something for her for xmas last year she went apeshit about it. and even if she doesn't, i'm a big girl, just say you've got it covered and i'll get over it.

I do this sometimes. I think usually what happens to me is I check the message from my phone, but its a pain in the butt to respond from my phone or I'm reading it while waiting for something (an appointment, red light etc). Then I get called back to what I was doing before I can reply.

  • My sister is that way. For her, I know it's because she looks at it, doesn't respond, and then forgets. But it's annoying b/c I don't call her to chit-chat and if I have a question, I'm going to text or email her. She will stop texting mid-conversation, which is so annoying, when I know she's home relaxing or something. Can't stand it. She has poor communication in the 21'st century etiquet!

For others, if I don't received a response, I'll usually assume it's because they forgot to respond or didn't see it. My husband is awful with emails too. I've told him several times, if I email you, I need you to acknowledge it and respond. He didn't realize this. At almost 30 years old, he is learning now the proper way to communicate via email. He always types in CAPS, which is so annoying. He will write an email to his attorney or accountant and use all caps and then use like 4 "!!!" which I explained to him you shouldn't do. He didn't get that this was interpreted as yelling. He's also dislexic (sp?) so that doesn't help!
