Job stuff/ SIL advice

So you all remember the post about BF's SIL right? Well I first heard about the job I'm hoping for through her. Someone told her about it. She applied for it but just got a promotion at her work. Before I applied she said she wasn't going to take the job, she liked where she was and the money was better. This was like 3 weeks ago. I applied, sent my stuff like I just told you... I JUST got a text from her saying she has an interview next Wednesday and she might ask me to watch the boys!!!! The only job she has applied for is this one. I'm kind of pissed! Do I have to tell her I applied for it? Last thing she said was she wasn't going to pursue it!!!!

Re: Job stuff/ SIL advice

  • Wait is this the totally crazy SIL who thinks you should clean her house? If so then I would say you don't owe her anything purely because she's rude and nuts. But I might be biased and would suggest you ask your BF how he thinks you should handle it. Also do you have an interview? It may not be worth mentioning until you do.
  • I'm kind of torn on this one. My first reaction would to be to say something to her along the lines of "I thought you were happy at your current job, esp. with your new promotion? You said you weren't pursing this job, so I went ahead and applied."

On the other hand, we all know she isn't very mature, so I'm willing to bet she'd turn the tables on you and possibly speak poorly of you at her interview. Granted, that wouldn't make her look good, but if you get an interview also and she knows this, I wouldn't put it past her.

  • Yep that's the one! The BSC SIL... My plan was not to say anything until I got an interview... All I can do is trust the my resume will do it's job and if the time comes my interview will go well. I don't like playing the "I'm better" game but in this case her night in jail may not look good when it comes to background check time. If it were anyone else I would have mentioned I applied but like you said... I worry she would do something sneaky and totally bitcchy.
  • Forgot to mention the other thing I have working in my favor is BF's mom offered to ask her boss - a lawyer who works with the judge the job is for - to put in a good word for me... But shhhhhh! BSC SIL can't find out lol!
  • I would not watch her kids so she can get a job that you are applying for.  Text her back and say that you have plans for Wednesday and can't help her out.

I'm confused - do you have an interview?  Are you being considered at all?

However, if your SIL just got a promotion and is also being considered for this job - she can't be as dumb and trashy as you described.

  • Don't tell her you applied.

But I don't get why you're pissed.  BSC or not, if she wants to see what her options are, it's her right to do so.  Sure, is sucks that she told you one thing then changed her mind - but she doesn't owe you anything.

  • When I really think about it I'm not pissed. Just really frustrated because she said she wasn't going to pursue it. I am being considered but I have not heard about an interview because they wanted my typing certificate first. She really is as trashy and dumb as it sounds she's just good at hiding it from people who aren't family. She works at a bank now and has been there almost a year... She smugly told me when she first heard about the job that "If I get this job you can apply for my old one!" And laughed. Heck it may not go to either of us! Lol! Where this job is located there are not many applicants at all so any job that comes open in this town stays open for a while because there just isn't the job pool to chose from.
