a poll about ebay

I recently sold some stuff on ebay, and as I needed the money to fund another purchase, I sold all of the items with a "buy it now" option.  One of my items was purchased on Sunday and I am still waiting for the payment.  I emailed the buyer and was told she was waiting to sell something of her own to pay or the item.  Obviously, I'm not thrilled, and find the whole thing incredibly cheeky, but what can you do?

So my question is if you buy or sell something on ebay, using the "buy it now" option, when do you pay/expect payment?

Re: a poll about ebay

  • I do a lot of shopping on ebay and I always pay immediately if it's buy it now. If I'm bidding I sometimes miss it but I always pay within 24 hours at latest. That is totally insane that you buy something without having the money to pay!

There's definitely an option on eBay to make people pay immediately because I have to do that.

(And I love what you bought with your cash, it looks gorgeous! I am always so impressed with the love and care you bring to your home. I am so, so not there yet and it's so inspirational to see what you do!)

  • Gosh, thanks G!

And I also always pay immediately.  I didn't really think it was a choice, you know?  To me, buy it now means pay for it now as well.  Ugh.  Now to find this magical option to force her to pay up!

  • I pay immediately, but I would expect payment within 48 hours. I once sold something and 5 days later hadn't heard a peep from the guy. I e-mailed him and got a snotty response about how I was uptight and needed to relax because buyers have 7 days to pay.

  • I would pay for it immediately (hence the Now part of Buy It Now).  Waiting 24 hours is still within reason.  Anything over 24 hours, not reasonable.

  • I voted within 24 hours.  I would pay immediately if I chose buy it now though.
  • I would assume 24-48 hours, but for me, it doens't matter if it's an auction or buy now, it's all the same IMO. (Not sure why, so don't bother asking!) :) .
