I just wanted to share my ridiculous grandparent situation because it's ridiculous and might get a laugh.
My grandfather has been letting my uncle live with them (Grandpa and his g/f) for 3 years now. Uncle has refused to lift a finger around the house or move out or get a full time job, so he's just been hanging around the house irritating grandparents. Uncle is 40+ in age, so you can see how ridiculous that is.
Well, I just found out last night that Grandpa and his g/f found an apt, moved Uncle into it, and have paid the lease for a full year just to keep Uncle out of their hair.
O.m.f.g. I have heard of parents of 20somethings doing this, but parents of 40 year olds? Really?
I could not believe my ears that a) Grandpa actually paid a year's rent for Uncle and b) that Uncle had no desire to move out of grandparent's house, even though he is over 40 years old.
By far not the worst family situation around, but seriously? My family just keeps getting weirder.
Re: Ridiculous Grandparent Situation
Yeah, grandfather is enabling. My parents have slightly enabled my brother for YEARS. He's now 40 and if they didn't start saying "no" to him, I can guarentee you he'd be asking for money all the time still..... Luckily my parents started saying "no".

Cool approach to the big heave-hoe. The proof is in the pudding next year when rent comes due. Will grandpa really resist paying? Resist another move-in?
I think knowing you supported your able-bodied son for 3 years PLUS one year in an apartment may fuel some backbone growing if he's still a looser.
Personally, I would have maxed-out at 6 months. But to each their own.
Agree with all of the replies. I seriously had to ask my mom to repeat the story because I was in disbelief. I had no idea this was going on until she called a couple of nights ago....just crazytown imo.
Glad I'm not overreacting and everyone else thinks it's crazy too!
