F/U Foundation failure
Getting a regular tank water heater.
Re-doing gutters so water drains away from the house properly instead of pooling around the foundation.
Still not sure about the incoming water. No new water to speak of. It appears to have come from the laundry room drain, the shower and tub, with the drain being the flood culprit. It seems like maybe the pipes or sewer line or something got backed up. Luckily, there was no smell. Hopefully this is an easier fix than jackhammering through the slab to replace a burst pipe or having the foundation fixed.
The steam cleaner is going in to get fixed, as well. I'll probably have Stanley Steemer come out to properly clean the carpets and cross our fingers for no more crazy downpours.
I also dealt with a work-drama issue. I almost had a panic attack going to my department head about it, worrying that I was overreacting, but she agreed with me and approved my response. I have been on the verge of a panic attack all day. I wish I could go home right after school but I have jazz band. Hopefully the rehearsal will pick up my spirits.
Re: F/U Foundation failure
It's this stupid above-ground sewer pipe in the backyard from the previous owner's crappy attempt at French drains. Once the water level got above it, it started bringing water inside, through the laundry room drain mostly.
Simple fix, stupid messy problem.

We've come across multiple things in this house that shouldn't have passed inspection, but did, and he was highly recommended by a contractor friend of my IL's. He built their house and it's rock-solid, so we thought we could trust his judgment!
We had some pretty bad inspection issues as well LOL. From now on, I am going to request an FHA inspection. When we sold our house, we had to fix some of the dumbest stuff - like a screen had a tiny tear in it - our buyers had an FHA loan, therefore an FHA inspection. We used a conventional loan to buy the House with Good Bones and I swear to God all they did was push lightly on the side of the house, declare that the house wouldn't blow over in 10 mph winds and called it good.
Anyway, unexpected house stuff sucks and I am sorry!

Yeah, it's not an entire pipe, but it's a drain thing? I don't really get it. It was part of the French drains when the previous owner had them illegally hooked into the sewer line 0_o
Did you get an FHA or conventional inspection? You might check - I am almost positive French Drains have to be inspected for an FHA loan and in that case, you need to consult with your lawyer (husband). Ha!
Conventional. We've had the drains fixed since the floodpocalypse last summer. They have worked very well since then. The gutters, on the other hand, need a helping hand if we're going to keep getting torrential downpours.
What is it with this state lately? It's like an experiment in extremes.
Yes, water heater purchased. Going to the in-laws tonight and tomorrow b/c the blowers are way too loud! But, the SS people were really nice and didn't even charge me the full price for the carpet portion of the deal. I'm mostly paying for rentals. I also borrowed a blower from a neighbor. There is a giant de-humidifier in my closet! I look forward to a hot shower somewhere other than my gym tomorrow morning.
Aw, thanks! I'm just ready to get my water heater today and start cleaning the carpets. A clean home (again) will be my gift! My ILs were nice enough to let us stay with them the last two days so we could get sleep and hot showers.
We've also discovered that our neighbor's retaining wall might be the reason SO much water comes into our back yard!
