Also fav. small suv/crossover

We're thinking about upgrading my Saturn Vue to a newer car. What are your favo(u)rites?

Re: Also fav. small suv/crossover

  • I just got a BMW X3 and I LOVE it, it is so perfect for me. I used to drive a Toyota FJ Cruiser, but I didn't like how big it was.  I love small cars but love the space of an SUV, so the X3 is perfection.  I also test drove a Volvo XC60 (I think), and I really liked it.

  • I'm not a fan of crossovers really, but for small suvs I like CRVs (because I'm a big fan of Hondas - even though I went back to my beloved Jeep)... but I am not a fan of the Jeep Compass, the Grand Cherokee however can't rave enough...

Our friends got a new Ford Edge, which I guess is more of a crossover than a suv.  I don't care for the shape/body style, but it is pretty nice inside and I know they are loving it!  Also, my boss has a Nissan Murano and its also really nice, I think the Rogues are the same but just smaller (never really looked at them)...

  • My friend has a 2008 Rogue, and while she usually loves it, she's been battling with the check engine light for a while now.

I have a GMC Terrain and love it. AWD is the way to go up here, and it's small enough I don't feel like I'm driving a boat. The back seat also moves up and back for when you need more cargo room in the trunk space. Nifty feature.

My hubs has a Grand Cherokee, and it's such a smoothe ride. Well worth the money. No real problems, and it's a 2006. I actually also love the Compass, but I haven't owned one, so no real stories on that.

My mom has a Ford Edge, and it's a bumpy ride like a truck, but she loves it. Also no real problems. She just has the very standard version.

My brother drives a Subaru WRX hatchback and loves that. He's more about the power in that vehicle, though, but I did like that there was a ton of room, and it wasn't as large as an SUV.

  • We're in the market for a small SUV/crossover right now too.  Apparently a Civic coupe is not the most family/car seat friendly.

My front runner is the CRV, but that's because, like Erinn, I'm a big Honda fan.  I do know that there are some great deals on 2011's right now as they make room for the 2012's.

  • I have the kia Sorento. My MIL has the Kia Sportage. I love both of them. The Sorento is a tad bigger and more roomy in the back. I get great gas milage and I haven't had any problems. I also got a wonderful warranty and low intrest rate when I bought mine. I have only had it for about 8 months, but I can't say enough good things abou it. My MIL bought hers used and has had it for a little over a year and she to loves it and hasn't had any problems. She has a v6 so not as good on gas mileage but still not bad.

  • I've never owned an SUV but I did work at a car dealership. They carried both BMWs and Hondas. Both the BMW X3 and Honda CRV received rave reviews from the customers. I am also a Honda person and can't say enough good things about them.
  • I own a Honda CR-V and I love it, but I will tell you that Jim does not.  There is not enough leg room on the driver's side for his 6' 3" self.

We have also rented a Hyundai Santa Fe several times for the Christmas drive home and we really liked it a lot.  It definitely fit tall boy better.

ETA:  Our CR-V is a 2004 model.  The new ones are shaped differently and may be better in terms of leg room.

  • We looked at getting a small suv/crossover when I was pregnant, but ended up just getting a sedan instead. If we had gotten one though, we would have gotten the Honda CRV or the Hyundai Tucson or Hyundai Santa Fe.

  • I had an Escape and absolutely loved it.  Not too big, not too small.  Great in the snow.

  • My parents have a Rogue. They really love it. My Dad wanted something he didn't have to crawl into to drive. He had his hip replaced last year and was tired of driving a lower car.

My boss has an infinity FX. I've driven it a few times and ridden in the back. It's very comfortable and has a lot of room. Only downside is it has a few blind spots but I'm sure if it was your primary vehicle you'd know how to drive it.

I'm a huge Honda and Toyota fan. So the CRV and the Rav4 have always been favorites of mine.

I'm a huge fan of Japanese cars. They always run for me and always run forever. I drove an Altima 200 miles a day for 3 years and it was brilliant. Dh did the same with a corolla when we were in college. They never let us down.

We recently got two German Cars. I drive a Mini Cooper (made by BMW) and Dh drives a VW. His car has had some serious electrical issues. My cars been fine but my car is not for babies.  I always knew that German cars drive amazing but can be prone to electrical issues. Ultimately I think my Dh would have bought a different car. We probably will get rid of it as soon as we can.

  • I don't really know much about crossovers/ small SUV's. I know that the one I've been eyeing up is the Toyota Rav 4 (they have a seven seat edition that I am all about).
One thing my friend (who is a car salesperson) mentioned is that you tend to get better deals at the end of the month because people are trying to fill their quota and tend to give a little more in the bargaining etc.

  • I don't know if this counts, but I really like my Subaru Outback.  It runs well in the snow, and I don't feel like the wind is going to blow me over.  I also had a friend get in a roll over with one because he fell asleep at the wheel and he came out with nothing but a sore body and few scratches.

  • I used to have a Honda CRV, and I loved it!  It was totalled in an accident, but everyone walked away with minor injuries.  It drove just like a car but had all the extra room of an SUV.  It was also fairly cheap to maintain.  In fact, I believe I took it to the dealership ABarber worked at while I was in law school :)

I've been eyeing the Infinit EX, but I've never driven it.  A friend of mine just got the Audi suv (the smaller version), and loves it.

I would imagine that you did. And I was probably even working there at that point in time. I worked there from the time that I graduated from undergrad until September of 06.

  • I have a Ford Escape and I love it. It's a great size for carrying the stroller and all the extras I usually have. It has decent gas mileage and I love that it's not a big car but it's roomier than my Focus was.
