Occasional lurker coming out of the shadows....

So I have lurked from time to time. Mostly just when I need quick entertainment, which you never fail to provide. Now I finally have a story worth sharing so I share my entertainment as a thank you for entertaining me:

I started a new job back in July at a very small office. One of the admin assistants has always been our go-to person and she is getting married soon. I asked our managing partner if we would have a shower for her and somehow just imagined I'd bring a side dish and be ready to party. Instead, I end up being the one throwing the bridal shower. The bridal shower was scheduled for this past Friday but she came into the office on Thursday and was crying. Apparently they had broken up and he had moved out. Again. All of this stuff comes out about how horrible he is and how they have nothing but drama between them. So the shower is off. I cancel the food, tell my husband he can eat what dishes I made myself, and unwrap the presents to return them so I can return the collected money to my coworkers. Monday morning she sends me a text that says, "Yay! I'm getting married after all. He's a jerk but who isn't so I just have to accept it! Can we have the shower today?" We rescheduled the shower for yesterday instead and I spent all kinds of time re-making food, re-wrapping presents, etc. Her response to me today after all the shower awesome-ness that I pulled out of a hat, "Hmm... I thought we'd play games..." Eh, it's not like I expected more from her but still it all stunned me. Now the whole office has a pool going on A) if they actually get married on Friday and B) whether or not she gets pregnant before their eventual divorce.

  • I don't know what else to say other than, your husband is a lucky man.

I look forward to meeting your CW on TIP at some point in the future.

  • she sounds crazy...I probably wouldnt have even gone through with the shower...especially if she told me it was "back on" through a text message.
If you knew better, you'd do better.
  • Damn... you are an awesome person.

I would not of gone through all that trouble, especially for a person that does not seem to appreciate it.

And I have never heard of anyone asking people to give them a shower.  Usually someone offers.
