Very Important Poll

DH and I are going out for a rare date night on Friday.  I've already decided to splurge on some deliciously unhealthy Mexican food, but I don't know if we should go to Chuy's or Lupe Tortilla.  If it matters, both are the Katy locations and both are pretty new.  Thanks!

Re: Very Important Poll

  • I did vote from your choices but I like the La Finca (next to Target) or Las Almedas (in La Centera).

Which Target?  I go to the one at 99 and Westheimer but I can't think of a restaurant near there.

  • Lupe Tortilla has better food, but Chuy's has creamy jalapeno.  Tough choice.

It's not in the same shopping center as the Target, it's a little further down past Target if you are heading towards 10, by Ooh La La, right past Commercial Center Blvd.

I voted for Chuys, but the one in Katy is just so packed! So my backup would be La finca. Have fun!
  • Ugh. The food at Chuy's has gone way, way down hill in the last few years. I say Lupe, if you're set on those 2. However, if the new Las Alamedas has the same food as the old Spring Branch location, do it. So good and the BEST salsa in Houston!

  • apparently im a weirdo but any of these choices sound better than Lupe. I'm just not a Lupe fan.

  • While I think Lupe has some of the best beef fajita meat in town, I just can't choose to go to a restaurant that doesnt have good salsa... Chuy's salsa isnt that good IMO either but they have Creamy Jalepeno to make up for it.

  • I think it's a hard choice - I go to one or the other for very different dishes.

The Chuy's chicken stuffed chile relleno with deluxe tomatillo sauce is a unique blend of flavors none of the other Mexican food restaurants can come close to - for THAT dish.

But the tortillas at Lupe's are to die for and their fajitas are really good (Pappasitos is still my fave for fajitas in Houston but Lupes works so I don't have to drive far).

Their beans for dipping chips in are delish too.  AND they have an awesome Skinny Rita.

I agree! I dislike the salsa at both places, too. However, I chose the spicy charro bean dip at Lupe's over the creamy jalapeno. I don't like the taste of jalapenos, even in a cream dressing.

NOT a weirdo - I am NOT a fan of Lupe either :(

  • i like to mix the salsa and creamy jalapeno at chuy's.  they also have, hands-down, the tastiest "healthy" salad i've ever had at a mexican restaurant.  their grilled chicken salad is so simple, so tasty.

I'm not set on those two.  They're both new and always packed so I assumed they're both good.  But I'll add Las Alamedas to the list.  Thanks!

Go to La Finca. Hands down. Don't go to those other places. LT is HORRIBLE there. We waited I think for 2 hours for our food. Terrible service. And I just don't like Chuys. And can I come? We have a La Finca in the front of our hood and we always go on Fridays. Finca Friday!

    This!

Chuy's has better queso too.  But Lupe has a-maze-ing tortillas.

I dont know. The more I eat it the more I don't like it. I love their ranch but besides that their food isn't the best. And YAY little girl has a name!!

  • I'm not a huge fan of either place.  I really like the Victor's Mexican on Fry Road.  Between the two of those places, I would probably say Lupe.

Um, of course!!!  And we still need to get the babies together for a play date!!!

  • The original Lupe Tortilla is the best to me! It's at Hwy 6 and I-10. I have been to others but they are just ok compared to this one.

  • I voted Chuys, the original Lupes is good too.... I LOVE Chuys salsa the most though.

Although my favorite in Katy is El Rancho, There's one on Fry near Westheimer (I think) and the other is on !-10, around Barker Cypress (you can see it from the highway, it's where an italian restaurant used to be and used to be at Fry and Saums. We were total regulars there when we lived nearby.,

  • I haven't been to either of those in Katy but I am not a Chuy's fan (except the creamy jalapeno).  We usually do Los Cucos (old katy location) for their green salsa and their food is always well prepared.  Las Alamedas is great and I do like La Finca.  Honestly, we were not impressed with El Rancho when we went (99 & Fry location).  The food was gross and the service sucked.  DD is a salsa snob and she wouldn't touch the stuff. It may have gotten better in the past few months but it was not worth the price to us.
