What happened to Coach? He was in the first and second episode, but now it is some other guy that lives with them. Did the show explain what happened to him??

I'm not sure what reason they gave on the show but the actor is also on Happy Endings and when that was renewed by ABC he couldn't be on both shows.

I forget why they said he isn't there. I think it might have been work related or something, so they didn't act like he is gone forever. I really liked him more than the new guy.

I believe they said he was subleasing (that's not the right word for that???) from the other guy. So when he came back from playing basketball, he had to move out.

Yeah they explained it briefly. I still think it's kind of weird that they swapped him out with another black guy, it just makes it seemed weird to me. I definitely liked Coach better, it would have been a much better show with him.

Thanks ladies! I was so confused!!

I also noticed that they changed the opening credits in one episode, and then it was back to the old way in the next episode...weird!

they didn't really have a choice. pilots are shot months in advance, and "coach" thought he was out of a job...but then abc picked up happy endings and he had an obligation to them

I think what she means is that it seemed like they had to have a token black guy in the role which seems weird. It just seems weird that they replaced him with an almost identical character (sports, ladies man, etc) instead of doing something completely different.

There's a lot of "consumer science" behind shows - I bet they did a series of focus groups that showed having one minority character was a good business move to get more viewers from different segments of the market.
