WWIND?

Ok so I've had a key fall of of my MacBook, it fell off because I broke the keyboard where it's attached. I took it to the repair place today and they said it'll cost me 200 to 300 Euro to fix. DH found keyboards for around 75 euro on line that we could install at home.

I'm not sure if we should do that or get me a  new macbook pro when we go to the states in Feb.

Re: WWIND?

  • What key is it that you broke?  Could you live without it until Feb or will it drive you absolutely nuts cos you use that key all the time?

If it was me, I'd get the keyboard for ?75 and then get a new macbook pro in Feb if that is what you decide then.  It would drive me nuts if a key that was used all the time was broken and i had to find a way around it... imagine trying to type without the letter "e" for example? But if it was something like the "backspace" button I think I could live without it for a couple of months...

  • It's the right hand command button, I use it a decent amount to open new tabs BUT I can use the left hand one or use the nub if I watch out, it's just not super convenient.

I could deal with it until Feb, the computer is close to 5 years old too so it's not like I don't deserve a new one :)

  • I have a laptop but at home always type on a regular keyboard. I find it easier on my hands and wrists (I have an ergonomic keyboard), and my laptop has less wear and tear. It's win-win IMO.

Kelly, if I were typing a thesis like you I'd do just that but I don't remember the last time I used my laptop on a desk :) and lugging a keyboard around the house with the laptop isn't very practical :)

  • I would make do with the left command key until Feb and then get a new computer in the US.  BTW, where in the US will you be visiting?

  • I would just make due till February. The command key while nice to use isn't as difficult as losing a space bar or a letter key. You will adapt soon enough. I have to basically pound my P key otherwise it won't work. I'm holding out as long as I can for now.
