Do you send holiday cards?

Do you send or receive holiday/Christmas cards?

Re: Do you send holiday cards?

  • I always buy them to send, but have only successfully sent them once. (Last year as a joint baby announcement.)

We don't receive too many now that we live here.

  • I haven't in several years.  I probably won't do it this year, but hopefully will get my act together next year (by that time my fiance and I will be married).

  • I've never sent holiday cards. My mom gave me some great advice when I was a kid: she told one stressful pre-Christmas day while she was rushing to get all her cards out, not to start sending cards as it's a pain in the butt. I seriously took that advice to heart!

I don't receive any cards. I know the people I care about and who care about me/us think about us over the holidays, I don't need paper proof.

I do send a personal email to friends and family to wish them happy holidays etc...

  • I don't do it.  I have little fantasies of doing it now that H and I are officially a family (and to show off our dog), but I doubt I'll follow through.  I'm not all that Christmas-cheery and it's a PITA that I've always been too lazy to do.  I doubt this year will be different, especially as we are moving from Tstan to the US in mid to late December.

I receive some from a few people and I guess it's nice, but mostly it just makes me feel guilty for not reciprocating.

  • Heck no! Never have and never will! I call our family and "family" on the day if they aren't with us.

  • Nope, holiday cards are more Christmas-y and we're Jewish.  I like getting them but they create such clutter and I always feel bad throwing out pics of cute little faces.

  • Yes, we do, and we receive a lot as well. Everyone in my group of friends sends cards.

  • I've always thought it'd be nice to do, but I've never gotten around to it.  Maybe next year when we're back in the US.  We always get a lot of cards.  It's a nice way to know I'm loved.  j/k (That was for azure :)
  • Yeah, I do.  I always have too (i.e. pre-H).  I don't know, it just seemed like the 1x/yr I caught up w/ everyone.  Seriously, I'm nutty w/ holiday cards-- my first job boss (dry cleaner cashier) and I still xchange cards (I've been gone for 17yrs).

Heck, we (aka I) just order 30 ceramic ornaments to send out (buon natale--and yes, I'm lame and send ornaments saying that to our non-Christian friends... it's more a 'we're thinking of you' thought than shoving Xmas down peoples throats, it's just Happy Holidays doesn't really seem to translate down here.  Thus far none of my friends have been offended)

  • Does it count if I plan to every year?

I always want to buy cute Happy Chris-makuh cards and send them out from our little interfaith family, but never do.  Embarrassed

I don't think "it's the thought that counts" applies to thinking about sending holiday cards, huh?

    Crying

Music Nobody loves me, everybody hates me
Think I'll go and eat worms
Long ones, short ones, fat ones, thin ones
See how they wriggle and squirm

I bite off the heads, and suck out the juice
    And throw the skins away
Nobody knows how fat I grow
On worms three times a day
    Ohh...nobody loves me. Music

I'm glad there are others out there in the same boat. I have several year's worth of really cute cards, some even addressed. I write Christmas letters and then don't send them. I don't get myself. Ah well....

  • Yup, I send them out, but only about 20.  This year though will be a mail onslaught from us, with moving announcements going out very soon, Christmas cards, and birth announcements.

I never knew all the lyrics to that song.  lol.  It gets violent!

  • We send and receive them. I really enjoy putting cards in the mail and when we got our happy anniversary cards this year I felt very touched. We've been making our own cards for the last year by embossing them with relevant messages, pictures. DH thinks its an excuse to play with glitter. I do try not to start early preferably early November so I don't have to get all stressed out. : )
  • Yes, I have ever since we got married. I always do photo cards. Design my own and get them printed at Costco.

  • Yep, we send and receive.  I do less now that we live here, since postage overseas is so expensive, but I still do it.  I've sent out Christmas cards since I moved out of my parents place at 18.  I love it!!!  It's totally something that I love to do, even though I know they get read and thrown out.  They make me happy.

  • We always have. We make our own (we both draw and we would take turns doing Christmas or Chanukah cards each year) and have them copied and sent. However, we hardly ever receive any and it's just become too stressful. With everything going on this year, we're skipping it. Maybe we'll pick it up again when there's children involved?
