I lost 10 pounds too!

"infant" arrived. Claire Kathleen was 7 lbs 14 oz & 19.5 in. Born 11/8 @ 851am. Labor & delivery story is the stuff nightmares are born of, but we're all doing great now.

E & R both think the baby is pretty great. We do have to keep an eye on E though...

  • Okay, you asked for it, but read at your own risk....

Got to the hospital Monday morning at 715am. Didn't get to see the doc until 830. At that point she told me I was still between a 2 & 3. Sometime during the pregnant, my cervix decided to move upwards and get vertical somehow, so every time they tried to check my cervix, it required them to stick half their arm up my cha cha to feel around (they weren't able to strip my membranes the previous week for the same reason, just couldn't reach it). Anyway, they started me on pitocin at 830, and had it increasing by 2 every 30 minutes. I was having contractions pretty much the whole time. They checked me again like at 2pm or so, was still at a 3. Did lots of walking laps around the ward, like 1.5 hours worth, which did not progress me much at all. At 8pm, they let me get off the pitocin so I could eat some real food (subway sub and BK French fries). At 9pm, they started me on the pitocin and did some balloon insertion thingy in my cha cha to try to open things up. A few hours later the nurse removed the balloon. Was still between a 3 & 4. Contractions all night long. Bored off my ass. Slept a bit over night, maybe from 2-5am or so. Shift change at 7am they were going to reassess me and what to do, possibly sending me home. The docs and nurses were really shocked that my pitocin was at 30 and the contractions weren't really bothering me. Before the doc checked me again, I went pee. When I got back into bed, my water broke on its own.

After that, the delivery part went fine. Required a bit more pushing than the other two kids, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't at a solid ten like before. About an hour later...

I started bleeding, which was a huge concern, since I did with both of the other deliveries. With R it was so bad they talked transfusions. Well, the had kept me on the pitocin at 30 post delivery because that's supposed to help the uterus contract and get back to normal. That didn't help. Then tried another drug that was actually in pill form, but they inserted those up my butt (10 pills), that didn't help. Still gushing blood. The doc inserts a plastic deal, like ones used for paps, to try and get a look to see what's causing me to hemorrhage. She spots 4 giant blood clots and my cervix is wide open and not closing. So she does a manual sweep of my uterus. Read: stick her entire arm up my vag and clean out anything that doesn't belong. I screamed the entire time. Most painful thing ever, and they had given me some sort of iv drug that made me drunk-like to help numb it.

now the hemorrhaging was under control and my uterus was coming back down in size, it kept pulling over to the left instead of staying in the middle, which worried them. They had me go pee twice to see if my bladder was full and crowding the uterus. Didn't help. So I got to have a catheter in. Shortly after that I completely crashed from whatever drug they gave me earlier. Not much eventful after that. My uterus stayed mostly on the right and the catheter stayed in until morning.

Positives: I did not break my coxyl (which I did with R) and my post pardem bleeding is almost non-existent now.Whew!
  • Congrats!!

I'm sorry your labor and post delivery was so difficult, I'm glad you are better now.

  • WOW.   That sounds absolutely terrible.  Did you have an epidural or did you feel all of this?   I was on pitocin w/ my 2nd and those contractions are terrible compared to the ones w/o.   I couldn't imagine how much pain you were in and am glad it is done.
