What to do With LO During Closing?

My dad keeps telling me we should get a babysitter for DD (16 months) but I don't really know if that's necessary?  She's pretty good at occupying herself.  I was planning to bring a few toys and a snack for her and maybe let her watch Mickey Mouse while we sign.  Would it be crazy to bring her?  Did/will any of you bring your LOs to closing?

  • We had to bring both of our little ones.  We have done this twice and both times it was no biggie.  It only took about an hour and we were done.  Our title office actually had a big bin of toys and our realtor held our babyBig Smile  He is a dad of 5 and a grandad of 11 so he was used to babies!  Totally normal.  I would not get a babysitter.  We got a draft of all of our paperwork ahead of time so I had already reviewed everything and we were ready to go.

  • We had to bring him. It was fine. He sat there and colored.
  • I wouldn't bring my kids, but I don't think it would be a huge deal. Do you both have to go to the closing? I thought that only one of you was needed.

  • We had a kid in tow at closing on the last two houses we bought

For the first one, DD #1 was six months old.  She slept or amused herself in the infant seat.

For the second, DD #2 was just shy of three years old.  She sat in the stroller with a sippy, snack, and some toys.

Both girls were well behaved and it wasn't a problem at all.

  • I'm sure if it was a big deal someone would have said "no kids allowed". I say bring LO.

If both spouses are listed on the mortgage then they both need to be there.  I would take your LO and hit up the Target dollar spot for some new toys to break out during the closing.

  • We left him at daycare, much to the disappointment of our REA. She wanted to play with him (7 months then).
