Robyn: Help! Diaper Rash nightmare

So, S's diaper rash is just awful.  One day it will be clear and then the next it is flared up and he has blisters we are fighting for the next week.  Once it is cleared up, it flares up again.

This flare up is on his butt cheeks to the top of the crack.

So we have been washing his diapers with 6-7 drops of tea tree oil, using the ecosprout cream and during the day while at daycare, she uses aquafor since he is in disposables.

I have rumparooz diapers and another website stated to put vinegar in with the diaper wash.  is this safe?  I am planning on stripping the diapers tonight and seeing if this will help.

I feel so bad for him especially with these blisters and he is being changed rather frequently because even my daycare provider is so upset that this is happening to him.

Any suggestions?  You are my Yoda for cloth diapers.  Thanks.

Re: Robyn: Help! Diaper Rash nightmare

  • Sorry, not Robyn, but we've had those blistering rashes before and the only thing that helped was Athlete's foot cream to get rid of the yeast.  Put a liner in your diapers or use disposables until it clears up.  That medicine clears it up quick!

We were going to get lotrimin tonight and then buy a box of non adhesive pads we used after he had surgery.  Thanks luvjon, my heart is just aching for the poor kid.  Granted he is happy as a clam but what I see just breaks me.

  • Robyn- would that CJ's stuff work on his bum?  I think I read that it's okay with cloth diapers.

  • I agree with Krissy.  It sounds like yeast.  Lotrimin should clear it up.  Evan will get some of those little blisters right under his sack and the Lotrimin clears it up.

We now use coconut oil (pure, refined from WF) as a barrier if we notice he's getting a bit red.  It works really well and is totally CD safe.

We have that too and we go back and forth but at this point, it doesn't seem to help with the blistering.

    This made me LOL!

Yes, those blisters make you feel sad for the little guys, but it is likely yeast and a day on that stuff will clear it up about 95%!

  • Sorry, a little late to the game :)  It sounds like yeast.  You can try CJs yeast but I would do liners and try something powerful just to kick it.  RaR is wayyy out in left field with their warranty lately so I will have to check on vinegar and their warranty-- I will get back to you on that one.

  • I have been having issues with diaper rash too.  Is he eating anything acidic?  I noticed that Mason's is WAY worse when he eats spaghetti - must be the tomato base.

  • No not that I know of.  We haven't really done spaghetti sauce.  I still keep it truly just veggies and fruits and the fruits are applesauce, pears and peaches.

Then we introduced strawberries the other night.  I don't think daycare is providing acidic foods because she keeps asking me if I'm giving him acidic foods.

Unfortunately, I think it may just be a red-headed sensitive skin issue.

  • Maybe it is a yeast infection?
  • Just went through this with lexi!  Do lotrim for sure--If you dont want to spend 5.00 and are close to a dollar tree you can the althetes foot cream their its the same thing and works great.
