Let's focus on the good things everyone does

I want to get my mind off this PSU stuff -- let's focus on the good things everyone does for the community, state, country, world!

Do you volunteer? Do you donate to specific causes? Do you have a "pet" project?

I recently started volunteering for the Children's Theatre of Annapolis, which would probably be my "pet" project. I did children's theatre when I was younger and was a theatre minor in college. I recently worked stage crew on their production of "The Witches" and seeing those kids really took me back to my childhood!

I also have a volunteer orientation at the SPCA on Saturday, and I"m really excited in getting involved with the animals. I'm such a bleeding heart, though, that I wonder how long it will take me to bring one home!

Lately, I've been wanting to organize some sort of volunteer effort ... not sure what for or how to go about it, though.

Re: Let's focus on the good things everyone does

  • Have you ever looked into the Junior League of Annapolis?  I am not active in it anymore, but I did enjoy the time I was active, before I had DS. They basically look for local projects supporting women and children and develop them, etc.

We sponsor a bunch of mids from USNA, belong to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation

We donate to our alma maters. DH is on the board of advisors for his alma mater's athletic boosters group. I used to be much more involved as an active volunteer for my alma mater, especially when I was in NYC, coordinating networking events but since moving I haven't been as into it.

Our community is very involved with the Severn Riverkeeper organization (we have an outfall project that we got a grant to complete, we have baby oyster spats, green marina, etc.) and DH is actually going to do some hard labor tomorrow to help w/ the outfall project.

Since DD goes to a co-operative preschool much of my current efforts are focused there. I am in charge of purchasing.

On a much smaller level we contribute to the Lighthouse Shelter and AACo foodbank.

AlternaTickers - Cool, free Web tickers
  • I volunteer for a horse rescue 1-2 days a week (feeding, grooming, scooping poop and other chores) and then whenever we have fundraising events I try to be there.

We also donate and go to fundraising events for the Anne Arundel County SPCA (where our dog came from) and Beagle Rescue of Southern MD.
