depressed by the news lately
I usually read NYtimes and CNN while eating my lunch, but the news now is seriously depressing! Between the idiots running for president, the horrible news from Penn State, and the Duggars bent on overpopulating the world, there's just not much to be happy about. Is anyone else feeling this way?

Yes! There's just a little cloud over me right now. I will admit it is mainly due to the whole Penn State thing. I am a proud Penn Stater. I went to grad school there and worked in the town for 4 years after I graduated. I love the place!
I am so sad over the news of the abuse and how it was handled. I feel bad for JoePa and the others involved. I understand why the decisions for their releases were made. I am just upset that things are ending this way.
Penn State has such a proud, honorable tradition. Everyone makes mistakes. I know this. But it is hard to see people who normally uphold such a high moral code let something like the events over the past decade or so go on.
Know I want the focus to move to Sandusky and the victims. Let's stop hearing about the people who could have changed this to the person who caused it and the kids (some now adults) who were affected!
DH and I were talking about this last night. I am trying hard to separate my feelings about my experiences at the school from the current scandal. He is having a tougher time doing this. Right now he is very disenchanted by Penn State on a whole.
I think a lot of us want more information instead of just hearing about the latest administrator/coach who is being cut for not doing enough.
This. I think it's hard to make a judgment call until the whole story comes out, which it may never do. I think the school is just trying to make things as "right" as possible, and quickly.
Since I'm from the Lehigh Valley, tons of my friends went to Penn State, so my FB wall is blowing up about it. Mel, I hope that you and Ben can still look back at your time there in a positive way. There are still so many people there doing wonderful things, but the country will lose sight of that for a while.
