The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I just saw the preview for the American film and it looks great. I wonder how it will compare to the Swedish version and the novel? I enjoyed both, but like with most things thought the novel was far better. I'm very curious how they will handle some scenes...

Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

  • I'll be interested to see how the American version is compared to the Swedish version too.  I thought the Swedish version was well done.

  • The Swedish version scared the crap out of me and for some reason that imagery scared me more than the actual book. I can't imagine that the American version could be worse (or better depending on the way you look at it), but I'm willing to risk it to watch Daniel Craig's fine @ss for a couple of hours ;-)

And I agree, the previews look fantastic.

  • The girl in the Swedish version fit the role so perfectly I am concerned that the American version won't live up... But I'll definitely watch to find out :)
  • I don't think it was necessary to redo the movie. I mean, the Swedish movies just came out fairly recently. Reading subtitles is not that difficult!

I read the series and absolutely LOVED it and cannot wait for this new version to come out.  I tried to watch the Swedish version on Netflix and felt kind of lost immediately - I think that it is such an intricate story that even if you are staring at the screen and reading the subtitles, you're just missing something - or perhaps it is that I don't have enough focus to read and pay attention for two hours?  That could totally be the case - I turned it off after about 20 minutes.

Though if Daniel Craig were in that version, I probably could have just turned off the sound and stared at the screen for eternity.

I didn't think it was that hard to follow.  I barely had to read the subtitles and got on fine.

Mostly, I will watch the American version for Daniel Craig.

  • The Swedish version was too much for me. I had to fast-forward through some parts. I am curious how an American version will pan out and treat things.
