Silly/stupid question

What is black Friday? All I know is it's a big sale day or something in the US.

Thanks!

Re: Silly/stupid question

  • It is the day after Thanksgiving.  It is the biggest shopping day of the year.

  • It's also the "official" first day of the holiday shopping season. A lot of retailers offer big discounts for a few hours in the early morning and stores open early. It gets a little crazy.
  • I think it's somewhat equivalent to our boxing day shopping.  People get up crazy early for good deals.

  • People actually got trampled to death last year...

  • The stores open at 4 or 5am and there are crazy deals... esp on large, big ticket items like TVs, laptops, etc... often people (like myself) wait all year until Black Friday to buy something like a big screen or computer or something like that.... Looking at hopefully getting a 50 inch flatscreen this year for $600ish... if not cheaper.... my first flat screen!! :)
  • Black Friday is the US equivalent to the Canadian Boxing Day sales... Same big hype because of the massive sales on everything! Smile

  • Thanks for the explanations. When I first heard of Black Friday a couple years ago, I thought it was a day when stores were closed and people boycotted shopping for the day... Turns out I was completely wrong.

But more importantly, the US doesn't have Boxing Day?!
