We just found out we will be moving to Fort Benning fairly soon!
Just wanted to see if anyone lives/has lived/ or knows about the area and can give me a little insight? Best areas to live off base? Things to do in the area?
Thanks ladies!

Hi there! I know I'm a little late on seeing this, but I just wanted to answer your question. I live in Phenix City, Alabama. It is a smaller area than Columbus, but still convenient to Fort Benning. There's a Super Walmart here, and some resturants and several restaurants/fast food places and grocery stores, but for pretty much everything else you'll probably still end up going to Columbus (we're about a 10-15 minute drive from all the big shopping centers in Columbus). Phenix City is attractive because a lot of things in Alabama are cheaper. It is a good area to look for a house.
As far as Columbus, there's lots of new construction on the north side of town (that would be areas around exit 10 off the interstate). If you're OK with a longer commute (like 30-45 minutes), there are also lots of new subdivisions popping up in rural Harris County, GA (towns like Midland, Fortson, Ellerslie, Waverly Hall, Cataula). Not much out there other than houses, though.
ETA: For things to do in the area, check out the "Fort Benning Area Guide" and "MuscogeeMoms" Facebook pages.
Hope this helps!
