DH took off xmas eve so we can celebrate with his family. This relieved a HUGE amount of stress that I was carrying about the xmas day celebration with them (as it will be over the top and TRU will probably have blown up in my house by then) and I like to be on my own that day or with our besties in the evening. Less stress. Because i know the gparents are going to go all out I want to give L gifts from us but know it is completely unnecessary b/c of the amount of stuff she will be getting.I am torn on this since we are the parents.

I felt the same way for Sean's birthday. Everytime I had an idea someone would steal it away! Drove me nuts! I knew he was going to be getting a shitton of stuff so we decided to hold off on getting him something. We are going to get him a trike come spring and that will be our "birthday present." I figure it gives us a small break and really our house is full of freakin toys that nothing else would fit! And we only have a couple of years before he gets that he should be getting a present from us! (and it's not like we don't buy plenty anyways!)

Re: oct30

  • I think that's what we will be doing. I have plenty of gifts in the basement. I think I will just have to hold off on them so it's not so overwhelming. We have xmas then 2 weeks later we will be celebrating her bday. The kid won't know what to do. And dh thinks her 10ish toys now are overload.Smile He hasn't seen anything yet.

But since the sales are so good right now I am getting little things for later on.

  • So I have a question when it comes to gifts from my in-laws to my kiddos... My niece has always gotten gifts from santa at grandma and grandpa's  (me-maw and pam-paws's) and with our LO on the way I would like to express that next year we would only like santa to visit at our house (i feel this is a special thing for parents). Should I start the discussion now or wait? It is very hard for my MIL to sometimes hear no from me... so I was thinking we may need to discuss early so things are nice and clear when it comes to next year's Christmas. Thoughts???

  • discuss early and often. Some times you have to reiterate things with the gparents because they want it their way and not yours. Stick to what you want and make your dh 100% on your side and there when you discuss.

Even though much of the planning is done by me, I run it by dh so he knows whats going on and agrees.  (or says I'm crazy)
