BR: This might be a stupid question . . .
Our open enrollment for benefits for 2012 finishes today, so I wanted to double check.
If I hope to get pregnant in 2012, do I need to change anything with regard to my health benefits? Or would it just need to be changed once I have the baby?

Re: BR: This might be a stupid question . . .
Not at all a stupid question! Assuming you're happy with your insurance co's prenatal care coverage (you can easily call & check to see what's covered), you should be good to go
You shouldn't need to add on the baby ahead of time, most companies give you a 30 day grace period or so after having the baby to add him/her on.
We went ahead and changed ours during open enrollment, but ours was taking out the lowest possible amount and we were paying a huge deductible.
So, I think it depends on what you already have it set up as for yourself (prenatal care). As far as the baby goes, if he/she is born in 2012 you can change it then as a "life changing event" or something like that. But in our situation, we wanted lower deductibles NOW because we were paying $120 every two weeks for each ultrasound and it was getting crazy. HTH.
Our crazy, wonderful life
If you want to change coverage for while you are pregnant (covering more ultra sounds, tests, etc) then I would change now.
Nothing needs to be changed till the baby is here (we switched to a family plan once she was born, but before she was born I did switch to a plan that covers more)

I agree with the other ladies and DH and I just had this discussion. Our other option give us much better coverage if I get pregnant/deliver, but it is also $130 more a pay. We stayed with our old coverage because we don't think we will deliver in 2012 (assuming we get pregnant).
Things you may want to consider would be coinsurance/deductible and for what. On the coverage I had when I had Collin there was 20% insurance only on testing/diagnostics and I figured a couple blood draws etc wouldn't be too bad. Unfortunately, I didn't account for the fact that he would be 2 weeks late and i would have to go every 3 days for u/s or that he would be in the NICU and have to have a spinal tap, 3 EEGs and a ton of other tests. It really added up and we are still paying off all that stuff. We only have like 4 more months so he will have just turned 2 when we finish paying for his birth!
