it just means the mfg of the test was cheap and didn't put enough ink in it
i read a lot about how "there's no such thing as a false-positive on home tests anymore". and "a line is a line". your actual levels of hcg doesn't reflect on the line. as long as there's enough hcg in there, it'll trigger the line.

This, more or less. A line is a line is a line is a BFP!
You can always use a second test tomorrow (or later today if you can 'hold it' for 3-4hrs to let the HCG build up), if you want, but this is how people getting addicted to POAS! (Don't worry; that's normal for the first little while!)

To address the original question... DH was in charge of running the timer for the HPT, and he kept an eagle eye on that thing.
Conversation went about like this...
C: "Annnnd.... that looks like a line."
S: "What? No way."
C: "Yeah, it's definitely getting a bit darker."
S: "Seriously? This was our first try."
C: "Heh. I figured it'd go like this."
S: "Holy crap. We're pregnant!"
C: "Yeah. Wow."
That's so exciting! Congrats! Guess your wish list to Santa worked.
Well, I work in a medical office, so I was testing daily (shh, don't tell!). They were all negative until one day I saw a faint line. I was shaking, I couldn't believe it! I'd seen faint positives before, but this was MY pee, not a patients, so it was like - holy crap. I'm pregnant! It was totally surreal. I dragged my work friend to an empty patient room and asked her if she could see it, too. She did, and then all hell broke loose! I showed it to one of the docs, and she had my blood drawn to check my betas.
I stopped at the grocery store to get DH some champagne (his favorite) and some sparkling cider for me. I also got a digital test to show him that I could make it turn positive.
I got home, and DH was on the treadmill we keep in the garage. I poked my head in and said hi, and he said he'd be up in a minute. So I'm upstairs, and I hide the cider in the fridge. I'd gotten a promotion that week, but we hadn't celebrated yet, so when he got upstairs (all sweaty and tired, haha), I fibbed and said I'd gotten us some champagne to celebrate my promotion. He said, "Really, honey, right now? Do we have to? I'm so sweaty and icky..." and I said, "Yes, now." So I had him pour us two glasses of champagne (I knew he'd drink them both so I wasn't worried), and once he finished pouring the second glass, I said, "OH, wait, I can't drink this - could you pour me some of this?" And I pulled out the cider. His eyes lit up, then he got all emotional and hugged me really tight. It was SO sweet.
