work vent/advice needed
The new job I started in Oct, is the job I wanted. When I interviewed my manager said that starting out my hours would be 10a-6:30p starting out to help out with coverage then would be pushed back to normal hours 8:30a-5p. I was also promised a raise since I worked so hard to train our employees and work on our workflows.
Flashforward to now. My hours are permanent my director said with no wiggle room. Well great, my son has to be picked up by 6:30pm and my mom was doing it for me since it was only temporary. Plus with her breast cancer treatment to come she will not have energy to watch a 3 yr old. Also our raises for this year were freezed and will be re-evaluated in march due to the current economy so no raise for my work.
So now I feel like I didn't get anything I was offered but yet grateful I still have a job. I'm more so irritated about the hours than money because I'm a single parent who doesn't have a spouse or even his sp dad to pick him up for me.
What should I do about this or what would you do if in my position?

Do you have any of the promises written in your Offer Letter or signed agreement? I am sorry you are trapped in this situation right now.
No apparently I didn't get anything from HR because I'm already an employee whereas the new employees got a whole packet. So everything was verbalized. Also the pay increase was suppose to happen after I started and then my managers were going to go back to HR with a list of everything I did to help prepare and train our new employees for the launch of this new center.
ugh.. It does not sound like it would be in your transfer letter either. I am really sorry. I would really really hate this since I am also a single mom. I'd probably look for a different job in the meantime.
Have you talked to HR about it?
Is the person who "promised" you these things still working there? You could go to that person and ask what was up. Say you took the job with the understanding that X Y and Z would be happening, so you're wondering when they will, you know, happen.
That does really suck. I agree with Only to hunt down the person that promised you these things if you can and explain the situation and how you were expecting a change in your hours.
The hiring manager is still there but it's the director that is over the hiring manager that is saying these are your hours, they're permanente and get over it.
With the raise freeze until March, the increase in pay is out of their control and hr will not approve it right now especially since we just opened this new site and don't have a volume yet. We opened Nov 1st and right now our volume is 5 patients a day. It's slowly increasing but holding steady as our average.
