Have any of you been to a naturopath/alternative medicine practitioner?

I've been super-fatigued for a long, long time, and I've been tested and poked and prodded and checked and sleep studied for everything they can think of and can't figure it out.  I'm considering trying something else, but don't really have any experience going to someone other than a regular doctor.

Re: Have any of you been to a naturopath/alternative medicine practitioner?

  • I went to a holistic doctor down in Falmouth who was AWESOME. They took an entire hour on my first visit to just listen to me and ask questions-- so many that I felt like they had known me my whole life. Crazy!

Anyhow, I'm not sure if the specific doctor I saw is still there-- he was studying under a doctor whose name I don't remember (also holistic). Ted Wissink was my doctor's name and he practiced out of Falmouth Family Practice on Bucknam Road.

The most important thing I liked about him was that he listened and was open to other treatment modalities-- and he believed me instead of coming into my appointments with a preconceived notion of my story and then not believing me if I said something that didn't fit with that preconceived notion...

That's really helpful.  How did you find them?  I'll check them out - I'm just wondering if there are others around.  I can't figure out how to find "real" doctors who take a more holistic approach (as opposed to an unlicensed person who practices some sort of natural therapy).

Finally, could the supervising MD's name have been Schneider?  It looks like he's their main integrative medicine dude.  I think Dr. Wissink is still there as well.

  • Schneider sounds like it!

I found them because my PCP was associated with the same office/practice.

I think, though, there is also a woman-centric holistic doctor or nurse practitioner-run office that I found when googling "holistic doctor maine."
