Rant, FYI...about the "city"

When you are shopping for a home, maybe you aught to consider the city hall and city services. After buying my home and getting the house dewinterized, there was a meter/something under the sink that was property to the water department that was leaking. We had called the city and they told us they would be out the next day and to be at the house between 9am-4pm. We got there at 8:30 and stayed until 5:00pm. Nowone showed. The next few days we did the same at their request that they said "oh someone was there at 1pm and nowone was there". They were lying right through their teeth because we were at the property the whole time. On the 5th day they finally showed up...not like you can boycott the water department!

Second rant: I had a strange car outside my house with a man trying to look in the windows from the street. He eventually drove away. The next day I had a sign on my door from the city that said I needed to obtain a certificate of occupancy. I brought it up to the city hall to figure out what the hell was going on. The water department had someone call and tell them he bought the property and to forward the bills to him. They agreed. Why don't they ask for verification anymore? So just anyone can call and say "hey  I'm  blalalah and I bought this..."? So I told them to switch it back to us ASAP b/c I had no idea who the heck that person was. A few days go by and I get another notification on my door saying that if we were renting the property we needed to get another cert of occ. This problem was with the building dept this time. Because of what was told to the water department from this mystery man, he had told the water dept there were still tenants on the property, so the building dept switched the property from own to rent and b/c of the water dept rediculousness, this set off a domino effect. I think I fount the error on my own weeks after (a house was bought 5 houses down from mine with almost the same address one didget off, and looked very similar to mine). But one thing is... how the heck would you get the house you just bought mixed up with another house in the neighborhood?

So I guess next time I buy a house I will somehow hunt down reviews on the city hall and see if they know how to conduct business.
