What is IN reading?
I just finished The Hourglass, a suspenseful time-travel/psych novel, with some romance. It sounds cheesy, but it wasn't; I caught myself holding my breath several times. And I think I might like to make out with the guy in the novel.
Also this week, I re-read The Giver (classic) and A Wind at the Door. (Could it be that I'm on a sci-fi kick? I think my Kindle shows a different side of me than my bookshelf! Is it because no one sees it but me?)
What are you gals reading? Anything especially exciting/worth checking out?

I just started reading No Second Chance, so far it's really good!
I don't have anything other books after that, but I found a bookstore that carries a pretty good selection of English books and prices are normal. Our English bookshop here doubles their prices!
I'm reading Island Beneath the Sea by Isabel Allende, it's really, really good so far.
I just got back from the library with a really strange collection of books - some chick lit, some proper literature and then Book 4 in the George RR Martin series. I still can't believe I got sucked into that, not my typical thing at all but now I MUST know what happens next.
My kindle book secret is a bunch of Amish love story books. So soothing... but not something I'd ever read in public if anyone could see the covers!

I'm reading Scone Cold Dead, a fluffy mystery.
DH & I are sharing The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Cheaper by the Dozen during our Saturday night story time -- he's reading Hitchhiker and I'm reading Cheaper by the Dozen aloud.
Dorothy, I love that you and your DH have story time! One of my ex BFs used to read to me, and I absolutely loved it. And it didn't hurt that he had a nice accent--you gals know how that can be.
Pitt, those Amish love stories are addicting for sure! Do you read things like Beverly Lewis? And have you read the Jodi Picoult that takes place in Amish Country (Plain Truth)? The Picoult one isn't so much a love story, but it's an interesting (and sometimes shocking) look at Plain culture.
I'm not reading anything right now, but I've read that book Plain Truth and I loved it! I also read some Lurlene McDaniel teen romance books about a guy who falls in love with an Amish girl. It makes for interesting stories for sure.
Oh, good timing with the question! The school year just ended for me and I've got a long flight ahead of me tomorrow (going back to the States for Thanksgiving!). I've been resisting starting the follow up book to Alexandra Fuller's first novel, Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight so I have something for the trip.
She's a marvelous writer. AND she had a book launch here in Cape Town last month so I went and got her to sign my book. She's even more enchanting and funny in person.
I read the Outlander series earlier in the year. If you haven't already read it, you should check it out. So ridiculous and so, so addictive.
Off to check out the Highlander series now...

Yeeeeeeeeees! This is totally me! I'm about to reread Harry Potter, I'm so excited!
I loved this book! So great you got to meet her. I haven't read her other books, but she's had some fantastic pieces in Granta, the New Yorker and other magazines that were amazing, too. In fact, I think the piece I read in the New Yorker was an excerpt from her book Scribbling the Cat (the title might be slightly different).
The new one is kind of a prequel to Don't Let's Go. It's her mother's story. Should be a good one! Haven't read any others yet but Scribbling is on my list.
Ha! I thought I was the only one reading these Amish stories, glad to see I'm not alone!
I just finished reading Naked in Death by J.D. Robb and The Brightest Star in the Sky by Marian Keyes.
Naked in Death is part of the "In Death" series by Nora Roberts aka J.D. Robb. A tough female homicide cop set in the future is the primary character. I've read a few books in the series before out of order. I like this series.
The Brightest Star in the Sky is a really long book and the content doesn't really justify the length, but it is a pretty good general fiction book with an interesting concept.
Definitely not alone. I love my Kindle for that purpose -- it allows the book snob in me to read books in public I'd never take out of my bedroom.
I feel like I saw somewhere that the Kindle really helped romance novels because people don't have to be embarrassed carrying around books with Fabio on the cover. It makes sense!
Ever since I finished Game of Thrones I've been reading random books that aren't that great. I wish more would come out!
