I need Christmas gift ideas

Normally, I get gifts for my parents and my sisters.  This year money has been tight for us, even more so with LO on his way.  My parents have insisted that we not spend any money on gifts for them or my sisters.  I just feel bad not giving them gifts, especially since we won't be spending Christmas with family this year.

So, I need some ideas on inexpensive gifts for my family.  Can anyone help me out?

Re: I need Christmas gift ideas

  • I've seen a lot of nice homemade gift ideas on Pinterest, maybe try checking there.

We always spend way too much on Christmas so I really want to try to do a smaller gift and then add in something homemade.

Sorry I don't have any specific ideas, I'm bad at this myself.

Ahh, why didn't I think of Pinterest?!  I know I've seen several homemade things on there.  Now I just need to go back and find something easy to make and ship.

  • Pictures of Baby. In cheap frames. Voila!
I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.

That did cross my mind, but I was thinking of doing a combo birth announcement/holiday card.  I don't want it to be baby picture overkill, kwim?

If you want to have a crafting party, let me know. I'm always down!

A crafting party would be so much fun!!  But it may be a little hard for me with a newborn.

  • I am making a few homemade gifts for christmas. I do want to tell you I am NOT a very crafty person and I had no trouble with any of these so I think almost anyone could replicate them.

For my friend that just got married I cut her invitation into strips and curled them around a pencil and put them in a glass christmas decoration.  It's difficult to describe, but it did turn out really cute.

I'm making photos printed on canvas for a few people (except not really printed on the canvas. I used this tutorial:  http://sarahsprojects.blogspot.com/2010/02/wall-art-for-siennas-room.html

I found it worked better with pictures that were not close ups as it will be a little wrinkled and I thought the close ups look funny with the wrinkles all over the face.  I don't think the tutorial said to mod podge over it, but I did after it dried and it does look better after doing that. I also used trace paper that I purchased in a pad($1.79) at Michaels instead of tissue paper, but it's basically the same thing except there isn't creases to begin with and there isn't as much trimming to do.

I am thinking about doing an etched glass project.  I am going to etch a cheap pyrex casserole dish that I purchased from Ross for $4.  It seems like this tutorial is more involved and involves more materials so I may play it by ear.  Here is a tutorial for it: http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2010/06/glass-etching.html

I found all of the last 2 on pinterest along with a lot of other great ideas.

  • Dad's family always gets something homemade. Last year I did drink coasters and everyone loved them. I don't think you should do that though because it got kind of chemically smelling and you don't want to do that around baby.

    This year I'm doing these.

Super easy and cheap! The one I have in my kitchen I make the head a little bigger so her arms aren't as huge looking.

They are also getting a family photo of Dad, Me, E, Brother and FSIL. They turned out really cute and I'm going to frame them and give them those as well.

I might also through in a few jars of jelly if I have time to do that.
