what is so great? is it like the ipad?
i went to amazon and saw some pics but i'm too lazy to read more about it.. it looks like you can watch movies, its in full color, touch screen.. i like my regular kindle.

we're having twins!
Re: kindle fire
my currently-reading shelf:
This is basically what it is, without 3G, wireless only. (And no camera or video recording capabilities.) It also comes with all the Amazon Prime features.
* Unlimited Amazon Prime Instant Video streaming.
* Kindle Lending Library (which sounds better than it is, only 1 book for a month? Boo. Still, better than nothing.)
* Unlimited cloud storage (which means any digital content you buy through Amazon: movies, tv shows, books, music is stored for free on their servers so you can delete it off your device at any time and then get it again).
* If you had Kindle magazine or newspaper subscriptions, I imagine they're all delivered to your Fire in color now. (But I'm not sure on this one.)
No one has it yet, I don't think, cause it doesn't come out until November 15th.
I want one and an upgrade to my 2G Kindle. It boggles my mind that I can get both, a new Kindle Touch and a Kindle Fire for less than an iPad.
Unfortunatly it wont be released until the 15th. I have one on pre-order, and will be shipped to my work so that I can play with it on my lunch hour (hopfully). lol
Ill let you know what I think of it when I get it, but dreamwinds pretty much nailed what it is all about in her post. Its going to be a good device for you if you mainly want to brose the web, stream videos, email, media type stuff. Its wont be as "handy" as the iPad for editing docs and stuff for work and such.
One of the reasons I got it is so that I can post here and TK easier, as posting from my iPhone is getting to be a pain. I can feel the crows feet deveolping around my eyes with how much I squint at it, guess that only reenforces the Dr's suggestion to wear my glasses at all times now huh? gah!
You might have just sold me!
me too. except i think i'll wait until after the first wave are released.. or for the second version. just in case. my kindle is still amazing.

I pre-ordered two the day they were announced. The plan was for me and H to each have one, but then he got an iPad (and a new MacBook Pro) from work, so we've pretty much decided the additional Kindle Fire will be a gift for someone. Possibly his mom.
I already have a Kindle, and don't plan to use the KF as a reader, but just a mini-tablet (as said above, it's a better option for web browsing than the iPhone, but I have no need to spend 3x as much on an iPad). According to H, the KF will be the best Android tablet yet. I'm super excited!

Yeah, it's some kind of special LCD that is a touchscreen.
