Tv in bedroom

How old were you before you got your own tv in your bedroom?
will you allow your kid to have a tv in their room?

Re: Tv in bedroom

  • I inherited a black and white, turn dial TV when I was maybe 11?  It was really nice since my brothers never let me watch anything I wanted.  At the same time, I was very active and never let the television rule my life or get in the way of seeing friends or family.

I probably won't let my child have a tv in the bedroom.  We don't have one now since we got married and I don't really see the need for it.  If I did, it would be when they are old enough to buy a small set of their own.

  • I think I was about 14.  I was only allowed to have one when I was able to save up enough money to buy it myself.  I will probably follow the same policy with our own kids.

  • I've never had one in my bedroom and I think we'll always keep it that way.
  • I was in middle school when I got a tv in my bedroom. It was a way for my parents to eliminate the drama that ensued when my sister and I were trying to play our Nintendo on the living room tv and they wanted to watch their evening shows. I won't have a problem putting a tv in my kid's bedrooms around that time as long as they prove they can be responsible and not watch tv instead of doing homework. We have a tv in our bedroom right now but it's not connected to our satellite. We only use it for watching DVD's curled up in bed.

  • I've never had TV in my room and don't want to. But we may replace our current TV with a bigger one at some point, and at that time I have a feeling V will want to put the current one in the bedroom.

My brother did have one in his room when we were young... I don't remember exactly when he got it, but it wasn't hooked up to cable so it was just for games.

  • I've never had one in my bedroom (minus college).

We weren't allowed TVs in our rooms as children, and I doubt we'll allow our children to have their own TVs either.

  • I didn't get a tv in my bedroom until I moved out of the house at 19. I really don't know when Edmund will get a tv in his room. I haven't given it any thought really.

  • We have one in our room now, but I never watch it.  Growing up we never had tv in our rooms, but we had a tv in our basement/rec room so we could watch something different from our parents.  I'll probably do the same for our kids.

  • I did have one. I haven one in college whe I moved rooms at my parents house I had one, but I never watched it. When I was working overnights I really wanted on, but I don't think that I will have one again, and I won't let my kids have one in their rooms.

  • I was 9 or 10. I use to watch MASH and the news before I went to bed.

  • I didn't have a tv in my room when I was a kid.

Gibson has a tv in his room already. He has for 2 years. BUT, I have rules that go along with it and surprisingly he follows them to a T.

He only has a dvd player and a little cheap game system hooked up to it. He is only allowed to watch a movie or play games after all his homework is done and once it is bedtime, the tv gets shut off and not touched again until I say so. We tried that before he was in school, but he kept getting up in the middle of the night to watch tv so he had it taken away for a year and a half until I let him try it again. And now, it's a good way to keep him and his brother from fighting and give Gibson a little quiet time for an hour or so a day.

  • I think I was about 12 when I first had a tv in my room.  I had to save up the money for it--I think it cost a bit over $200, and I thought I was so big time.

  • I guess I'm in the minority but I had a tv in my room when I was about 10 but I had to share it with my brother. We would watch Saturday morning cartoons together every week. Once we were in separate rooms, we each had our own tv but we'd watch TGIF together and a few other shows. I don't see a problem with my kids having one in their room but we'll hold off on letting them have their own computer in their rooms. I'm just not sure at what age it would be appropriate for her.

  • Starsailor* I agree that there will never be computers in their room. That thing will be in the middle of the living room so we can see exactly what they're doing. You don't need privacy on a computer until you're out of my house.

I never had a TV in my room until high school, and it was a turn knob thing that I had a game system hooked up to. I think it also got some news channels. Now I have a TV in my room and always will. I watch it to put me to sleep or when I have a migraine and need something to focus on to relax my brain. My kids will probably be allowed to have one, but it will be the first thing to go when they're misbehaving.

Just read this and realized it didn't make a lot of since.  I need to work on typing on my iPad and not nesting while in class.  It looks like a letter Charlie from Always Sunny would write.

  • I've never had a TV in the bedroom, and it will likely stay that way.

Like ringy, my brother had one in his room when we were kids, but it was also just for video games.
