DH being unintentionally funny

I was going to post this a few days ago and didn't get around to it. Maybe now is the time...

DH and I usually speak German, but sometimes he'll put on his worst German accent and say an English sentence with a German word or two mixed in. Like "I vant to be going to zee Markt." (German for market, in case you couldn't figure that out ;-)).

The other day I was going into town and asked him if he wanted to take a shower before I went so he didn't have to deal with DD while showering. To understand his reply, you should know that the German word for "to shower" is "duschen," pronounced "dousche-en" (ignore the s - I think the bump will block the word if it's spelled correctly).

So his reply to my question? "Yez, I vould like to dousche now."

I then had to explain between giggles what exactly "dousche" means in English and why it's physically impossible for him to do it.

Re: DH being unintentionally funny

  • LOL. Reminds me of when we were first married and DH said he needed to buy himself some new panties. I had to explain that men wear underwear or boxers, not panties :)
  • Haha! And we too occasionally pull out the English with a German accent joke around time. I like to pull out random accents to get a laugh out of H. If only having an accent would allow you to speak the actual language. I would be fluent in tons!

Haaahahaha. I've had to explain that one before, too. :-)

  • Ha, ha!  We had this one a long time ago :)
I love when DH plays around with accents.  I'm so bad at this, but he does a really good "bad German English," and he also does a really good American English.  Watch Retutlingen TV sometime, then your DH can work on Swabian English :)
