Pets

What type of household pets are you not open to having in your home?
Another old nestie with a new name.

Re: Pets

  • Mainly birds.  They're loud and messy and need a lot of interaction or they go nuts.  Plus DH is still scarred from his childhood (his parents raised them).

I also don't really want hamsters/rats/etc... or rabbits.  I'm good.

However we are at our pet limit.  It will be 10+ years before we are in the market for another animal.

  • Rodents, reptiles, amphibians, marsupials, and at the present time large dogs.

Large dogs is only because we have a small house and yard.

    ETA: Birds

  • Anything other than dogs. This is an odd question.
  • DH is allergic to pretty much everything, so we will probably have fish again one day and E may get a hamster or something if he wants one one day, but that's it.

  • AnythIng other than dogs, cats or fish. I might consider an iguana if it's paper trained.

Is it legal to own a marsupial?

    I have no idea.

ETA: Opossums are marsupials. I've heard of people having them as pets.

I am bored :) My coworker is going to buy her 3 gear old son a bearded dragon. The thought of any type of lizard in my house freaks me out.

  • My high school bf had an iguana that was awesome. Her name was Tabasco and she slept in his bed. She pottied on newspaper in the Florida room and they let her roam the house. That's the only reason I would consider an iguana. I bet I could get used to other lizards since she was so cool, but heck no to snakes.

  • Eh, I just like dogs.  I've never really even been a cat fan.  DH had them growing up and would love to get one.  I'm sure he'll try to use our child as leverage to get one when she's older.
  • My mom had an iguana named Rex when I was younger. He was cool but I have no desire to have one of my own.

  • Snakes-I am deathly afraid of them

    Birds-they are loud

Any other animal I will consider.  I grew up with a bunny so I would really like to have another one but I don't think it is such a great idea with 2 retriever dogs in the house.

  • Birds for sure. I just do not like them, period. I mean, I like them as a concept and I talk to them at the petstore, but as a pet for me, absolutely not. I just don't get why you'd want one. The either live like 5 minutes or 100 years and get all bizarre and neurotic and possessive of you and you have to leave them in your will to someone.

    No thank you.

  • It's much easier to say what I would allow - dogs. Maybe fish, hamsters, or hermit crabs if the kids really wanted them, but I'd rather not.

  • My parents have an amazon parrot that I will probably inherit one day. Like DP said, they live to be like 100 years old. I'm not very excited about the prospect. It would be one thing if they had trained him to say all kinds of fun stuff, but the only things he says are my name and "hello". He also likes to laugh and cry. Apparently it's harder to teach them to speak the older they get.
