What to do with old Anni/Bday/Christmas cards

I want to make something out of our cards and keep the words we exchanged to one another over the past 8 years. I don't want to recycle into cards for others. The cards were things that we gave to one another so I want it for us. I am trying to figure out what to do with them other than recycle, or stuff in a box in the closet, or scan them and store them on the computer. I don't want to display them for everyone to see either ( No framed cards, etc.)

 anyone got any good ideas?

Re: What to do with old Anni/Bday/Christmas cards

  • I have all of my cards (whole cards since DH makes them on his computer) in a pretty box, sitting in our living room.  So the box is out for everyone to see, but only we know what's in it and can look at them any time.   The box we have is about 12"Wx6"Dx8"H so it isn't near full yet.

If the writing is small enough, you could attach it to the center of playing cards.  I saw an idea on Pinterest... "52 reasons I love you" where someone wrote on playing cards and gave it as a gift to their loved one.  Each time you play cards with each other, you can read them while playing.

Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

  • I actually sent a card to my dad, and we have been sending it back and forth to each other for every holiday, we just scratch of words and replace them here and there....it has become a fun tradition. Maybe add to the card that he gave you 8 years ago and give it back to him this year :)

This reminds me of one of the doctors that I work with. He has given his wife the same exact Anniversary and Birthday card for over 30 years. He writes new notes in it each year.

  • I have been hole punching my cards and putting rings through them to make it into a book. I keep them in the cupboard with my photo albums.
  • I have a drawer in my craft desk devoted to old cards. Sometimes, if they're really pretty, I'll cut it down and frame it (could make a good seasonal decoration if from holiday cards, or go in a nursery for baby cards, etc.).

Or I cut out certain elements that I like, e.g. a wedding dress with rhinestones from a shower card, and use those to embellish scrapbook pages or even apply them to my own home made cards.

Or, if there are a bunch of cards from one event or for one person, e.g. cards from friends and family when M was born, I cut out all the interesting bits and decoupaged a blank box (you can buy them at any craft store) and put his keepsakes in it.
