"Up North" suggestion for place to stay with a dog?

I feel like DH and I need some alone time away from the stressors of everyday life to just be.  Any suggestions for a place to stay in northern MN that we can take our pup with also?  I'd like to keep the 2 night stay to under $250.

  • If you're looking to go as far as Grand Marais, the Best Western takes dogs and is really nice.  I don't remember the price, other than it being reasonable since we don't typically spend much on hotels.
  • Crowdcut offers coupons for Gunflint Lodge every once in awhile ($250 for two nights).  They allow pets, but it might be extra.  DH and I went there for our anniversary and it was fantastic! It's also up near Grand Marais.
  • I would suggest East Bay Suites in Grand Marais also accepts dogs and has kitchens so you can cook your own food if you'd like!  I have found the rooms to be spacious yet cozy!
  • In Ely, we've stayed at Echo Trail Outfitters and Big Lake Wilderness Lodge. I can't remember if either of them had a pet fee.

Grand Superior Lodge near Split Rock - I'm 99% sure they have a pet fee.

In Duluth, the Hilton takes dogs and even gives you a dog bed to use while you're there! I don't know the regular price but we've gotten good deals through priceline.

The AmericInn's along Lake Superior allow dogs, if you want a regular hotel.

You could also look on vrbo.com and homeaway.com for private rentals. We've had good luck with dog friendly rentals that way.

  • We stayed at Superior Shores with our dogs. Their pet fee was really reasonable- like $10 or $20 for the week with 2 dogs. I also believe http://www.fitgers.com/ allows dogs. I think this is where my friend stayed recently with her 2 dogs.

  • I think we had the dogs with us when we stayed at the villas at spirit mountain...I can't say how much they are, because we were there marathon weekend and everywhere in Duluth gouges people that weekend.

  • Blue Fin Bay accepts dogs in some of their rentals and it's really nic, some have kitchens etc. But it is also up near Grand Marais, and may be more than you want to spend.

     Good luck!

  • I'm pretty sure the Inn on the Lake in Duluth allows dogs - we LOVE that hotel!  The smores, heated year-round rooftop pool(very small, but awesome) and location all rock!
