Speaking of GF and isolation....Julie
How do you deal with that? We are having a lot of this with Peyton in school now. The kids take a lot of cookies etc to school when, last year, in preschool, the teacher requested fruits/veggies for snacks so this was a non-issue. Peyton feels left out a lot and me sending her a GF equivalent for special days does not cut it for her feeling included.
We just tackled the wearing gloves while using art supplies etc hurdle and I am worried that we don't have a great plan in place for helping with this for her feeling-wise....

Re: Speaking of GF and isolation....Julie
I don't know!
I've been "lucky" that my kids have been GF from day 1, so this is normal to them. They've always had meals and snacks separate and different from their friends. BUT, now that Henry has been on his gluten trial and eating the daycare food (blech!), he is very very proud of the fact that he gets to eat what everyone else is eating. Like, he talks about it all the time. This breaks my heart because now it's obvious how isolated he felt all this time.
My daughter is still very gluten sensitive and Henry is very protective of that and monitors everything she gets, so he understands it. We are very careful in how we talk to them about the food issues, so that they neither feel like victims or an inconvenience to anyone, but it's obviously still something that impacts them.
There was a book that was recommended to me about this very issue, but of course I can't think of it now, and it's fallen off of my Amazon wishlist, dangit! But this message board addresses this topic frequently and might be worth your time: http://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/forum/10-celiac-disease-parents-of-kids-or-babies-with-celiac-disease/
