Hair Thinning

Anyone experience this?  I noticed that my hair is thinning out quite a bit and I have that stupid part on the back of my head that is embarrassing.  I realized the other day it was because my hair is thinning out.  Not sure why.  Could be hormones, lack of proper protein and iron (nutriotion period), or just because I'm going bald!  It sucks either way.  I've only had this happen once when I was leaning toward annorexic tendencies but I definitely eat now so lack of food is not the issue.

Re: Hair Thinning

  • It could be thyroid or hormone related. It would be worth talking to your Dr about.

  • I agree that it could be thyroid or hormonal.  I had this happen after I was pregnant.  Maybe some of the horomones readjusting in your body.  They did check my thyroid, but it was fine.  It happened in the front on either side of my head and I now have some hairs that are probably 1-2 inches long or so and curl.  I feel like a 5 year old!  lol
  • I lose a lot of hair, even being pregnant. It's because of my PCOS (so hormone related for me). I noticed that my hair thinned by probably 35% over the last couple of years. I hate it! Prenatal vitamins have helped it not fall out as much, but as for the gorgeous pregnant hair - I'm not one of them.

I hope you can get to the bottom of what's causing the thinning!

  • I'm thinking it may be linked to the hormonal change and the suddenness of it.  I can't remember when I started noticing it but it wasn't too long ago.  If it keeps up I will very definitely head to the doctor.  Ugh, I feel like I'm just falling apart left and right body-wise and I'm only 31.

It is crazy what hormones can do.  I never realized it until after I was pregnant.  I had the hair loss and a few others.  Plus ever since I had him, I know have gray/white hair too.  And each time I look I am getting more and more.  I am not one to dye my hair, but at 28 I feel to young for white hair!

I have been very lucky so far with not getting any white hair.  Premature white hair growth runs in my family and somehow it has skipped me.  I don't dye my hair either so it would totally suck to start getting them.  Will you start dying yours?

Baldness doesn't run in my family wither so why am I going bald?  Tongue Tied  OK, it's not that drastic but it sucks.

  • I may eventually, but right now I think I am mostly the one who notices.  Every so often Larry will see one when it catches the light just right.  I am noticing them mostly in the sections where my hair is growing back from when I lost it.  The good thing is my SIL is a hairdresser so she can do it for me.

I was so self conscious when I had the hair loss.  It was right in the front and if I wore my hair up it was soooo noticable.  I stopped wearing my hair up at all for months.  I hope it is a temporary thing for you too!

  • I had a viral infection when I was 18 that hung on for nearly a month and that is the only time other than postpartum that I had my hair thin that badly. It was definitely a hormonal/nutrition thing for me
