Are the Duggars the new Jon and Kate + Eight?

I was watching the Duggar episode last night where they are traveling around the world (I think) and were in Scotland/Ireland.  This whole "let's take a large family and give them a vacation of their dreams" kind of thing strikes me as very similar to how the Jon and Kate series turned out--the incessant traveling for a very large family on very expensive trips.

How much longer do you think the Duggars will do this show?  Do you see similarities to Jon and Kate (the show, not the couple)?

Re: Are the Duggars the new Jon and Kate + Eight?

  • The first few times the Duggars were on tv were via specials on Discovery Health and it was the family on vacation, so this is not atypical for what we've seen of the Duggars. Yes the trips are getting more extravagant, but eh, it doesn't really bother me. I find their family pretty fascinating. They seem very grounded even with all the publicity they get.

The whole vibe of Jon and Kate bothered me from the beginning, and I could care less about what that family had been doing or is doing now.

  • Because there is no reality in reality tv.

Let's face it, chores, homework, the occasional movie night with popcorn = boring.  But that is real life in a family.  Since that is what we all do every day, why would we watch it on television?

  • These people are so boring. Nice, wholesome, blah blah? yes. But seriously, so boring. I cannot imagine why anyone finds them interesting enough to watch.
  • I think the Duggars are already on their way out. I think TLC will try to milk them until the very last drop, but I don't see them being on TV still in a year or two.
  • Now that she's pregnant with her 20th, they'll def have some more seasons. They'll document the pregnancy and birth.
  • I give it 2 more years.  They will see it through Michelle's birth and then it will start to fade unless someone else gets married and starts to breed.

  • And to be fair, Jon and Kate's kids seemed really grounded, they had every day activities, laundry, playing, etc, but that got boring too. The most interesting part of the show was the parents trying not to kill each other.

I agree that the Duggars are SO boring. They HAVE to do trips, etc, otherwise, who wants to watch bath time, and dinner time, and whatever time that many times. The initial fascination was "look how many jars of pasta sauce/ loaves of bread/ cartons of eggs/ etc we use in a single meal!" After a while, it's not interesting.
