Clicky Poll for Fun - House Costs

It seems that most people on this board fall into a house cost category of less than $100k or over $300k.  [Poll]

Re: Clicky Poll for Fun - House Costs

  • The house that I'm selling and the house that I'm buying are in different categories...

Mine are also.  Our first home is now a rental and we are planning on buying a new house...I just used my preapproval amount for the house range that we are looking at (although I used the high end of that).

  • Can I select two? The house we want is $159,900 but hoping to get it under or at 150k. We're making an offer today so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
  • Yes, it is different for me, too.  I purchased my condo for $380K, while I was single.  DH and I (as a married couple) are now looking at townhouses and SFH's in the $500-600K price range.

I second this.  The house we are renting is half the price the house we will be buying.  DH bought the house when he was single.  Now that we've moved to a higher cost of living area, our next house will probably be double the cost.

  • It actually really depends where you live.  I live in a very HCOL so spending 450+ is not uncommon.  It's more the norm actually.
  • Our current house was 198k but we are looking at places 160-180k. They are actually bigger than our house but have less land (we want to decrease yard and increase house, lol).

  • We haven't bought yet, but it depends on whether or not we go for a 15 year mortgage ($350-$450k) or a 30 year mortgage ($500k range), the amount we want to put down on the house, etc.

  • Our new house and old house fall into the same catergory.  The new house is nearly twice the size but, because of the MI economy, we're actually paying less for the new house.
